warranty outcome about center diff pins
I saw ,in the center diff pins pool, that some X owners had tranny failure due to center diff pins comming out. I'd like to know for everyone who had that failure what was the outcome under warranty.
Did mitsubishi paid for the damage (i don't think so, but still),didn't cover it ,saying it was abused?
What was your driving style? Was there any sign of abuse, like a worn out clutch or something?
Are you in for a lawyer and court, or did you just shut up and paid the bill?
Thanks.

I highly doubt it they got warranty coverage.
I think the only reported failures have been on people with heavily modified cars to begin with, so they just sort of skipped the whole "let's go to Mitsubishi" ordeal.

It's going to be difficult one way or another. The manufactuers' representative (dealership) bears the responsibility of proving the vehicle was abused and that abuse lead directly to the failure of the specified part. Simply saying "well he must have abused it" wouldn't hold much water in court without actual evidence.
The diff pins problems happened to stock or modded cars, the drivers who lauched or who didn't launch. There is no clear answer as to what exactly causes the pins to snap and the shafts to come out.
I know the case when it got covered by warranty, but there were also cases when it wasn't. The fact is that Mitsu is not recognizing the problem and it's a case-by-case solution.
My advice is to go and isnsist on the coverage.

Thanks for the advice,
My friend is getting is car an estimate for the repairs and a complete inspection ,by an independant shop, of the drivetrain and pictures taken to demonstrate the fact that the car was not abused and get refund for the repairs he is going to get.

Good luck man! I hope warranty can come through!!!
My pins broke and mitsu said no because the first owner of my car hit a curb and left a few scratches on the transmission case
But i ripped it off and sent it to Buschur to have the case welded back from where the pins had made a hole, and stronger pins put in
Should be getting it back this week

Well mine was a little more than normal due to my mistakes
But buschurs price is VERY reasonable, obviously every job is a little different depending on how much damage has been done.
-- The biggest mistake was i sent them my WHOLE transmission... it is over 150lbs so UPS will not ship regular rate and my be done via frieght (ups frieght wanted like $340 to ship it one way) lowest amount i could find at another place was $230
Plus of course Buschur charges more to have to take it apart themselves...
If you can take it apart locally and the damage isnt that bad i got quoted somewhere above 500 or 600 by Dan at Buschur racing. for new pins and the case welded where it had worn though, the variable being how much machine work it would have needed. (not including shipping)
My damage was pretty bad (i wish i had taken pics) so I got charged almost $1200 because i went ahead and had them put the new stronger pins in a brand new center diff ($600 from mitsu) and had the case machined with the hole welded up.
But prices do change so if this has happened to you call Dan at Buschur racing and talk to him about the best way to take care of it.

I had NO CLUE it was happening with me until it had pushed a hole in my casing and tranny fluid had started leaking. The only thing that would be a heads up as far as i can tell is if you change the tranny fluid and it looks like liquid metal lol
