Agreed,,, this should be done DURING the tune if anything.

It's the same concept as upgrading the bov. Like Espec said, just do it when your car is on the dyno, that's what i did.

Never do this after a tune...or install a better bov after a tune for that matter.

Someone else asked this, but it was met with vague/lame answers. The video implies that the MBC and BOV crush were added at the same time, is that true, or not true? Meaning, is there an actual before/after that we can see (dyno overlay e-spec?) showing the differences between the car with an untouched BOV vs a crushed BOV, with *NO* other changes?

I agree that the stock BOV can start to leak, but in my testing (on the IX valve) it was above 28psi...but that was with a *slight* crush.

As far as the actual procedure, the channel lock method is quick/dirty and it works, but I prefer a more precise method in a vice. The diagram that someone posted before is quite accurate.

There are two ways to do this. One, is a 'light' crush, where you compress the cover about 2-3mm, just slightly increase the preload on the spring inside. In my experience, this is good up to ~28psi.

Light crush:

The second way, is a 'full' crush, where you crush the housing all the way down until the nipple *just* touches the rest of the housing below it, about 4-5mm. Then, bend up the nipple a tish so you can fit a hose all the way on it, and you're good to go! In my experience, this can make the BOV hold closer to 32psi w/o leaking significantly.

Full crush (pre bending nipple):

This is a great mod, its been around for about 20 years now

Can we all please stop talking about how annoying we think the music is and talk about the functionality of this mod instead?

,,,,,,,,
Although I've tested this time and time again with no other changes to see the changes in graphing, in this instance the boost controller and MBC were added at the same time. I'll be sure to post a direct before and after on another up and coming tune.

Thanks for the great pics and positive contribution to a thread dedicated to helping nubes!

^^ pretty much...

You are changing air flow characteristics of the system without changing the fueling side of it. Worse part is you can't even quantify the change unless you are logging to ensure trouble free operation. On a stock X, you might be okay, but its not worth it.
