To stroke or not to stroke

Hey guys, it's time to beef this engine up and upgrade the turbo. Well, actually it's time to start planning for it. I'll get started on ordering everything in July probably.

I decided I want to upgrade the pistons and rods. Then I began to wonder if I should just stroke the damn thing. The JUN 2.3 kit is only $300 more than the Cosworth 2.2 kit, but the wait is probably 3 months or more. Anyway, I've never had a stroked car let alone a built car. I just know what the advantages and disadvantages of doing so are. But what needs to be done to my engine to install it? sleeve/bore? And which kit is really better? JUN 2.3 or Cosworth 2.2?

I'm not getting a shortblock. I have to put some financial limits on this build. I plan on getting the following plus more:
-APR head studs
-AMS 600 HP fuel kit
-AMS fuel rail
-FP Red ported
-Exedy Twin clutch
-Evo 9 MC conversion
-not sure about which injectors
-Aquamist hfs-6 meth kit
-intake manifold (maybe?)
-turbo manifold (maybe?)

I'm not sure if the intake manifold and the turbo manifold are necessary. If I do the tb manifold it'd be CBRD and the intake manifold probably Cosworth.

Engine needs to be bored over, clearance the rods, not sure the other specifics. Cosworth is the way I would go...the slightly shorter stroke allows for higher rpm. Either way should be done by a pro.

what about the AMS 2.2 thats not stroked?

Yea i would personally do the AMS overbore kit and then you can rev as high as you want.

Well that kit and a stroker kit cost about the same, except the AMS kit doesn't come with pistons and rods.

Is there an issue with the Brian Crower 2.5 stroker kit? It looks mighty tempting at half the price of the cosworth.

You get what you pay for typically, the cosworth is overpriced though. But quality is very good.

Be cautious and ask the pro's alot of questions. When I bought a Magnus 2.3 stroker for my DSM, I was never told it would vibrate so badly.

Bolts were coming loose on a monthly basis!

Well then my perfect set up would be the Cosworth Crankshaft with AMS rods and pistons for 2.4.

You would need the cosworth crank and cosworth rods. You could use the AMS pistons but you would need the AMS (ERL) sleeves as well and A LOT of machine work.

I am sure it could be done if you want to spend 10 grand (maybe more)on just that stuff.

You will need to bore out the motor to press the sleeves in and the check all your clearances etc etc. Not sure if you need to hone the sleeves but there is more if you do...i am not a mechanic or a machinist...i just know from checking into it for my build that it gets real expensive real fast.

murlo, what are you going to end up going with?
I was thinking of building mine with 87mm pistons, is that boring out too much from what you've heard without sleeves? I figure at 87mm its 2.05L, so a bit of extra displacement ;-)

New OEM shortblock with upgraded pistons/rods and a new hone.

Stock crank and sleeves...built head (porting probably and resurface) with +1mm oversized valves, bigger cams, springs/retainers, new headgasket etc etc

Similar setup to what ETS made 765WHP on, but my turbo won't be quite as big
