Just ported a X head
Our resident master, Jeff B, was given his first X head to play with using his favorite grinder. We learned a few things right away such as the aluminum is far harder than the 8/9. This isnt too surprising since the Evo 4g63 is harder than the 2G DSM which is better than the 1G. Mitsu improves the breed at every turn.
Exhaust ports are very choked up, intake ports arent too bad, and we already knew that the intake angle and port size was pretty awesome. As a result most of the work focused on the exhaust. It is odd that it shaped like a 1G intake port and scaled down. Complete with the odd roll downward at the end of the port.
Here is the initial port reference for the exhaust, followed by the closeup-

The intake wasnt looking too bad-

Before we got to the exhaust, Jeff measured all the ports with a quick reference tool, his fingers. The intakes he says are "2.5 fingers" wide, which while its not scientific it gives us something to visualise versus the end result-

Without further ado are the cleaned ports and intake angle shots to show what 7hours behind a grinder/flapperwheel/sanding stone can accomplish in the hands of a sculptor.

Exhaust-

Enjoy, we cant wait to see how it performs when tuned.

I am not sure what turbo this is going to end up with actually. I believe its a stock appearing with meth. I know the owner still has the stock turbo, picked up some cams, and we have done the valvesprings and valves in preparation for that.
After looking at this X head, I really want to pull ETS's off and take some time with it. I am not sure if it was worked and how much but this really seems to show that its more important than a IX. Some work on that one with S2Xs and a 6765 could realise some larger gains.

The only pix I have seen of any ported X heads is Cosworth. There might others but if there are I have yet to find them. We looked as we were curious on the exhaust port dimensions. Anyone have a bad X head I can buy?

Check MAP's website Aaron if you want to see their work, I believe they have pics up now, not sure if they are the best, but they have a cylinder head area now with all their different stages.
