Loud vibration type noise when letting off throttle
Loud vibration type noise when letting off throttle
like the title says...im getting this odd vibration type noise when i lift off the throttle and let the gear begin to slow the car down. the second i push the gas back in it goes away. im thinking this is normal drivetrain noise but just want to make sure. can anyone fill me in as to what this noise is?
Most noise is cause by exhaust rubbing on:
1. Engine oil pan
2. Sub frame tie bars
3. Contact with driveshaft.
As mentioned above the heat shields can sometimes cause reverb noise. Stuff a sock in between the shield and the car to eliminate that area as the source.

Its the drivetrain/trans making that noise when you let your foot off the gas. When not under load that is the sounds of all the slack in the gears. Normal decel noises as i had them in both of my evos as do most.

Double check if you are missing any bolts in your exhaust, namely from your DP to your Cat. I had an issue where it was slightly loose (ended up falling out and needed to be replaced anyways) and was causing a crazy rattle at 2k rpm when I let off the gas.
kinda what i figured... nothing is loose, the car is brand new pretty much. more noticable in 4th and 5th gear. it just sounds like metal under a tight vibration, not like loose metal clanking around. hard to explain without hearing for yourself. my wrx did this too but i cant remember it being there when i first bought both cars.
Need more info... are you stock or have a bunch of stuff done? People might say it's normal, but everytime I have a noise like that, something is broken or about to fail.
Check (change) your transfer case oil. Mine did that exact same thing right before my TC blew up. If there are significant metal shavings, you might be in trouble. Use ONLY OEM fluid in there too.
Mine also made a strangely similar noise when I cracked an aftermarket downpipe. It did it more when it was cold because it sort of sealed itself when hot. have someone rev the car slightly when cold while you listen/feel for leaks around the DP. The AMS widemouth solved this one for me.

the car is stock and basically brand new...10,000 miles. the vibration is the type of sound im not actually feeling anything. once i let off and begin hearing the sound, the second i even tap the gas is dissapears for the moment my foot is on it but as soon as i let off, there it is. Hope this is normal...
im just like you. it bothers me to not know whether this is normal or not. like i said my 07 wrx did the same thing but i beat the **** out of that car and was on my way to spinnin a rod bearing. i had all kinds of gold flakes in my oil... and the car didnt have but 17,000 miles on her. it seems to be normal cuz both of my AWD cars have made this noise.
I have the same noise on the freeway, when I lift, its not a vibration that I can feel, but just a vibration sound as tim788 mentions.
My Evo 2008 GSR only has 4800 miles on it, and I just noticed this the other day.
