Downpipe Removal ?

I am in the middle of removing the downpipe and following the instructions in the how to (thanks) and looking at the garrett instructions and I was wondering if I have to seperate the stock downpipe into the two seperate parts or can I just remove it as one piece? Thanks

take the wheel off and use a long extension!!! this will make your life a lot easier.
1 take the strut bar off to give you extra room.
2 remove all the heat shields.
3 disconect the cat from dp
4 take of the 2 bolts that hold dp to the elbow
5 take of the elbow

that should be really it.

2 choices/options for ya hope it helps

1. just use extensions (15" shud be long enuff) and wobble to remove them. i find the one the left is a little more difficult to remove but it's possible. just try diff angle to get to it.

2. depicted in pic below hehehehe ... but be warned, yr 14 mm angled wrench might get stuck in between the DP & heatshield and it is VERY difficult to get it out i used this technique during re-installation of stock DP.

I used a stubby 14 mm wrench to do that part.

BTW: you should be able to remove the DP and O2 housing as one piece. I had to wedge in the huge AMS widemouth DP. I didn't think it would fit at first.

You mean the dp, or O2 dp combo? What are you trying to accomplish here?

Thanks for the help. I finished today. Removed the dp, turbo and exhaust manifold. Could not have done it without the how to section, had the laptop right next to me in the garage along with the garrett pdf instructions. It took me ten hours total to remove everything. I only stopped to eat and drink and everything came off perfect.
