Oil is oil. Use a good 10w30 and you will be in good shape.

i would say regular oil change interval is better than using better oil depending on how hard you drive the car

Check this article out. It is the best that I have seen so far explaining engine oil.

i use royal purple, they did a full write up in Dsport, and it had nice gains. AMSoil is another that I use in my 2006 Z06. evo is a D/D and AMSoil is not as easy to get my hands on.

Mobil 1 10W-30 in the engine, Redline cocktail in the transmission, and OEM Diaqueen 90W LSD in the transfer case and rear differential for me.

If you ask me, 5W30 is better than 10W30.
Definitely in the winter time.

If I still lived in MN I would just use the factory-fill Mobil 1 5W-30 year round, but down here in TX it never gets cold enough to require the 5W so I opted for a bit extra high-temp protection.

So you run straight MTL in the transmission? May I ask why? The reason I ask is because the cocktailX (2xMTL + 1xMT90) matches the factory viscosity spec almost perfectly.

Yeah, but the guy I replied to (laxplayer) lives in MD if I am not wrong.
Moreover it is always better to have say 5W40 that 10W30 for sake of cold starts, not the oil properties itself though and for your turbine protection.

My turbo will be just fine Honestly, people put way too much thought into engine oil. Pick the quality brand of your choice and choose the viscosity that matches your climate.

My old IX is at 60k miles and has been modified and running high-boost since it was nearly new and the stock turbo is still perfect. It's seen plenty of autocross and now track duty with the new owner too. The engine has seen nothing but Mobil 1 10W-30.

Transmission oil question. Apparently Redline has recently (Sept 2010) released a new MT-85 transmission fluid. I wonder if using this alone might be superior to the redline cocktail....

Also, are there any retail outlets that sell redline tranny fluid? I've been to O'reilly's Autozone and can't seem to find it....
