HKS GT II or CBRD BBX Full

I am looking into getting a new turbo on my car for road racing. I am wondering which would be better for road racing?

Also, is the HKS a stock replacement turbo?

Both nice turbos..

there have been some complaints about surge with the HKS... but I dont think it's very serious.... sounds very minimal!

the HKS looks really nice, castings etc..

Our BBx lite is a nice little unit also... VERY reliable... OEM appearing... and there is lots of info on it on the forums!

we also have the bbx full which is a bit larger!

Let me know if we can help!

cheers

cb

^ now that is a classy product promotion right there . Doesn't unreasonably knock the competitors product while providing a quick teaser advertisement for there own.

I currently have the HKS GT2 turbo. This is a stock frame ball bearing turbo. It spools really fast and it's especially good when you need to hit the gas going around those turns. As for the surge problem it has something to do with the wastegate accuator if I'm not mistaken. If installed probably and tuned properly you shouldn't have this "surge" problem There are quite a few threads on this HKS turbo and there are two good ones. One of the threads actually compares the HKS GT2 and a full BBK turbo.

^ this a test and tune on the HKS GT2 done by Sean Ivey. A VERY WELL KNOWN EVO TUNER especially on the east coast.

Just do your rsearch. You really can't go wrong with either turbo but I like HKS. Good Luck my man!

The 'surge' issue can/most likely is an aftermarket BOV issue. Just google BOV and surge/flutter and you'll get thousands of hits where guys have had problems from just doing a BOV swap. Has to do with the spring rates, etc. etc. from what I've researched. BOV's need a lot of tweaking to get them to work correctly, go figure.

I have the bbx-lite and cbrd tubular manifold and love it. cant go wrong if you're looking for quick spool and good torque. pulls through redline too. perfect for street fun.

I have the BBX Full and I absolutely love it. It got a little laggy (25psi@4150rpm)when I put on my map tubular exhaust manifold but that also made it shine! Once I put in Kelford cams that brought spool right back inline though and again bumped power. VERY impressed with this turbo right now. 400whp on dyno dynamics on pump gas w/o even trying, and power from 3700-8000+ this would be a great road race turbo!

Thats what it is the turbo responds fast and it's hard for some of the BOVs to keep up.

The test done by Ivey is for the Evo 8 and 9. Although similar, the turbo for the X is different. but it would be amazing if it created the same results.

Thanks for all of the info.

Which would have a better top end power? I understand the HKS iwll spool fast, but which would make power easier?

What's the difference between the Lite and the Full versions of the BB-X turbo?
