Question Rods/Piston Combo's

From what I've read and been told the rods are the weak point in our engines and tend to take a **** after awhile if you're pushing over 400+wtq. Tried researching differences between H I adn X beam rods and makes me wanna pull my hair out. I'm trying to shoot for 450hp 400tq so what would be a good set up? Been looking at the Manley beams w/ Wiseco pistons going off of RRE's input but what type? H or I? and I saw MAP sells X beams? Any input/advice/setups you guys are running w/ your tq numbers and how long have you had or not had problems w/ that set up would be effin awesome!

Kozmic is that what you run? I see you have quite a bit of power on tap in both those X's!

Robevo - why do you recommend the Cosworth and why H beams?

manley turbo tuff rods are probably the most popular ones.

im not so sure about pistions, but i have heard that wiseco's are good, along with the manley pistons, but JE have piston rock issues

Manley Turbo Tuff rods are awesome and reasonably priced for the quality you get. As for pistons I like Wiseco. Work great bulletproof and come with coated skirts!

Heres my opinion, if you just going to be running 93 octane with a big turbo manley h beams are fine. But if you plan on running e85 and race gas and putting out like 700+ whp and 500+ wtq I would go with manley turbo tuff rods.

Wiseco 1400 hd pistons are awesome. On cold start up sometimes, I would hear slight piston slaping, but it would have to be very cold out to hear it.

they dont make the 1400hd's for the x yet.

I am doing a drop in setup and decided to go with manley h beams and wiseco pistons. My reasoning behind this is the stock sleeves cant handle much more than what the h beams can. Also h beams are lighter and with a drop in setup the rotating assembly isnt as balanced as if you were to send the block out to a machine shop, so a lighter rod would be better for the rod bearings.
Im also running an fp black, so rods that can hold 600 reliably are plenty. And lastly, you can get manley h beams and wiseco pistons for about $700. Cant beat that.

Thumbs up Rod / Piston Balance!

The Rods and Pistons are balanced separately from the crank shaft when balancing the whole motor, so if you want to balance the "Drop-in" rods and pistons only then the motor would still be benefitting just as much. However, as delivered, the pistons and rods, when compared to each other, may already be very close to the same weight.

whats your reasoning of the H-beam vs, I-beam vs, X-beam?

This is the setup I am running works great.

People keep saying things about JE pistons yet the two most respected evolution shops in the country, Buschur and AMS both use JE pistons to their custom specs, so I trust them more than people slinging parts because they have better margin on one over the other.

The stock sleeves can handle plenty, no one has seen a sleeve failure yet. Buschur doesn't upgrade the sleeves on his motors as he hadn't seen any issues yet either. Find me a person with a cracked sleeve or something and maybe i will hear you out.

On another note, your last statement shows your true reasoning...the rest of it you were just trying to justify your purchase. You wanted to be frugal with your internals which makes no sense.

Price should NEVER come into play when you select pistons/rods...I mean ever. The cost of a block far outweighs any savings not to mention the amount of money it takes to install the rods/pistons makes the hardware price look pretty irrelevant anyway.

H beams are a waste...if you care about weight get some aluminum custom rods.

The Manley I beams are pretty used by everyone and work great and support over 1000whp so they are an easy choice.

Pistons there are several great choices...if I didn't use my AMS spec JE ones I probably would've used CP pistons or possibly wiesco's.
