AEM intake install
AEM intake install
I just got done installing my AEM intake on my X and I must say although it is a great product the instructions were not very clear and it took me close to 2 hours to completely install. The biggest issue I had was getting the new inlet tube tightened on the inlet pipe, there is not a lot of room down there to tighten the clamp. Another issue I had was that the weather stripping they give you to put around the hole in air box was too long and I ended up having to trim it down to get it to fit. I also noticed that the bypass valve now sits very close to the battery terminal, actually I think it might be slightly touching the plastic cover, and the filter seems to be hitting the air duct a little bit. Did anyone else who did this install run into these problems? The car started fine with no problems or check engine lights and driving it afterward seemed to be fine. There were no vacuum leaks that I could hear. You can definitely notice the increased airflow even though its pretty much as quiet as the stock air box.

I had similar issues. In reviewing the illustrations on AEM's website (install instructions), the BOV seems to be properly orientated. I guess the most important thing is, the inlet is properly seated on the turbo inlet.
