Cold air intake for MR?
Cold air intake for MR?
If there is already a forum somewhere on this topic, I appologize, but I have not been able to locate it.
I was looking at the stock airbox, and it seems that
made at least an attempt at getting cold air into the engine. However the stock airbox looks like it has a good bit of room for improvement, without its complete removal. Has anyone attempted modifying the intake to increase its air flow? I noticed that in the midle of the air inlet there is a "pillar". I am guessing it provides rigidity to the inlet. Has anyone removed or modified this "Pillar" and then measured its effects on the engine? It also looks possible to modify the front of the airbox, perhaps enlarge the inlet, and replace the core support mounted factory duct all together, if only one were available.
On the MR, you cannot stick the intake down behind the left fog light housing for a cold air source due to the trans cooler, so the after market ones I have seen are out. Since I live in Houston, and A/C use is mandatory most of the time, most open element filters are out as well. There are some aftermarket intakes out there that look very well thought out that deal with the A/C fan hot air issue, but they are not "cold air".
