Oil Squirters Hitting Pistons
Oil Squirters Hitting Pistons
So we're almost done putting the motor together, and just now installing the oil squirters, and they are barely hitting the pistons.
I have 90mm Wiseco HD pistons and Carrillo H-Beam rods.
I know some people used to delete these on the 4G63, and I think I remember reading ETS deleted their oil squirters on the Evo X.
I really have two options....I can try and bend and space it with washers to try and make sure the clearance is good everywhere (still kinda iffy because they vibrate and could do serious damage if it hit a moving part) or I can just remove them completely.
If I do delete them, I will have nothing delivering oil to my wrist pins, other than oil sloshing around.
Can I get some opinions on this please? What would you guys do, remove them or try and bend them? The car is gonna be mostly a DD / weekend warrior, but I also want to take it to the road course too and go all out.

Were they super close during assembly? I think the rule of thumb is you want like 0.007" or so between the oil squirters and every other moving part because they vibrate a good deal and can move around a bit.

They can be bent rather significantly - so carefully bend them out of the way and leave a good 1/4" clearance all around...
We had 2 break off and still ran the motor for 15k miles with no issues, on tear down everything looked fine except the bottoms of the 2 pistons.
Personally I would leave them in. Just use caution and common sense when bending them.

Typically there is always enough oil mist in the engine case to lubricate everything. Hondas have been running 1000 whp motors for years with no squirters. But this only applies to forged components.
