Turbo problem?
Turbo problem?
I have evo x and I was under full throttle in 2nd gear and suddenly I lost the power. I thought I hit the rev limiter but no I was around 6k rpms. After that it seems the car is really sluggish and the turbo will turn only if I depress the gas pedal all the way, before it was much sooner. Would could be the problem? Is the turbo fried? I will go tomorrow to a mechanic but just wanted to check with you first.
Thanks ...

I'm betting that your internal wastegate failed open in some manner, which would cause the symptoms that you are seeing as most of the exhaust airflow is now bypassing your turbo. It's possible just the wastegate arm detached from the turbo's internal wastegate valve as they use a cotter pin that can come off if someone has played with it before.
Normally boost should hit about 22-23 psi at 3500 rpm and then slowly taper down to 13-14 psi by redline. If the wastegate is hanging open you would have to pin the throttle down and "might" get some boost as RPM's rise if it can't all flow out of the wastegate passage. It's possible the turbo is starting to go as well, let us know what you find.

Then unlikely your warranty will cover anything.
More power can/will undoubtedly cause turbo problems prematurely. Honestly with mods i would assume any engine/drivetrain warranty does not exist on your car anymore.

Research the Magnusson-Moss Act. I'm getting really tired of hearing about people get shafted by dealerships on warranties

OP: Check your wastegate. Here's some info on how to do that.

Other than not spooling, are you having other issues? Can you spin the turbo wheel by hand, with the engine off? This does sound like a wastegate issue.

I've read the whole MM act. It's true reason for existence is for OEM dealers to not deny warranties for people who use replacement parts that aren't made by the OEM. Like buying a cheap oil filter or a replacement light bulb type ****.
The MM act wasn't put into place to help people who mod their cars to make power keep their warranties although many of us try to cite it for that reason, including myself.
In the end it depends on the dealer. I would try regardless, I am simply saying the OP needs to be prepared to assume the dealer can deny his claim.
I don't know why you got all snappy at me, as what I wrote is still true.
Ive had no problems with dealers shafting me, I've gotten warranty stuff done even when making 500whp. But the fact remains if they wanted to they could deny the claim because of his mods.

You're right, it does depend on the dealer. It seems like the dealerships that are just there to sell as many cars as possible with no care for repeat business are the ones that turn down warranty stuff because of mods.
I'm going to guess that an IC pipe blew off. Check all the hoses.
With a hose blown off, the A/F is going to be completely off; it will be extremely rich because the MAF sensor is reading a lot of air that is now getting dumped instead of going into the engine.
With regards to the warrenty claim, if it were a wastegate/turbo issue, with his mods, the dealer would have grounds to deny warrenty. Reason? The mods of: cold air intake, turbo downpipe, high flow cat and catback exhaust are all related to the engine and affect the calibration/tune. The turbo is therefore no longer subjected to the same conditions as from the factory. For example, the cold air intake may alter the MAF readings. Therefore, the A/F is affected and that changes EGTs which can lead to premature failure of the turbo. Hence, warrenty denied.

By the way there was a check engine light on before this happened but it's something that comes on and off because of the high flow cat and the code I've been getting is p-1235 mass airflow. Today when I started the car to go to the mechanic the turbo and the gas pedal was working properly as before but when I got to the mechanic he found two new codes: p-0123 and p-1233 both connected with the throttle body. Will I have these problems again and what solution do you recommend. Yes I have warranty but not sure if they would cover this, I will try anyway ...
