? about ayc/traction control?
? about ayc/traction control?
I recently bought an. Evo X and wanted to know if its normal for the car to be doing what it does when cornering. Ill be driving fast into a corner and have the engine in the power band. As I hit the apex ill give it wot and hope to power out of the corner exit. Instead the engine feels like it has no power and revs jump like the clutch is slipping but really slowly. The curvy road indicator flashes and then goes away. I assume this is normal functioning of rthe car but wanted to confirm this. My X is only a week old so I sure hope nothing is already trashed. Thanks for any input.
So you are hitting the traction control, thats what the curvy road symbol is. When you get to that point, it cuts throttle from you until you are more stable, so the engine loses power.
Anybody please correct me of this point if I'm wrong:
For correct driving, when you hit the apex, you would want to ease back on the throttle more as you unwind the steering wheel more.
You can turn off certain safety 'nannies,' but I fear telling you may endanger your safety from your desire to bury the throttle midcorner. This car is not invincible, the laws of physics still apply. In fact the nannies are a good way, initially, to tell you what you just did was probably a dumb idea, at least in terms of learning how to really drive a car.

For normal road driving and spirited road driving leave your traction control ON. I turned mine off and ended up doing a 360 giving too much power into the turn, needless to say I avoided disaster, but only by inches. The traction control keeps the car just within its limits, by you turning it off you basically saying let me make you do what your not supposed to do.
OK thats cool that its normal. After the apex you should be putting down as much power as you can, smoothly of course.
So knowing that this is normal my main question is how does this system react to suspension mods? Say I put on a set of springs, will the traction control come on at the same level of G force or body roll as before? Does the system "learn" like an engine ecu? Is there a limit to how much mechanical grip you can use with this system safe guarding against stupidity?

Imo the best explanation of traction control ever. I say though its more of not what your car is not supposed to do vs seeing the limits of what you car CAN do.
turn the traction control full off (hold ASC until it beeps and shows car with curvy lines). I always leave it full off because I don't like the car doing things w/o my inputs.
so while at the track this summer.. first session i left on the top level of TC.. this became anoying very quick!! hitting breaking zones under abs, then off break turning hit apex on the gas smoothly out of the corner.. all of a sudden wtf no power... oohp there it comes... accelerate out of the corner..
Level one off
Breaking zone under abs, off break Turn in to hit the apex.. slight understear then whopp perfect, smoothly on the gas out of the corner zoom zoom "big smile on my face"
Level Two off
Breaking zone under abs, off break, turn in to hit the apex slight understear oops nope now over stearing woop woop in the grass black flag OMG Eyes poping out of my head.. lets try that again but smoother and slower!
Breaking zone under abs, off break, turn in to hit the apex Slight understear flick the stearing alittle.. over stearing on the gas (dont take your foot off the gas) keeping smooth, 4 wheels looking for grip straighting out exit speed 10kph faster... with bigger smile on my face!

ps the above picture.. we had cones marking breaking points apexes etc.. this was a local sports car club meet with avalible driving instructors etc..
i would highly suggest that anyone who wants to drive fast anywhere to atleast take some sort of driving instruction.. sooo valuble especialy on a track with medical personal avalible. Learning a new car and what it's abilities are is not only fun but important for those times on the street or highway when things just go wrong.. evasive manuvers ahoy!

yeh ASC is annoying and can be to aggressive particularly over a bumpy surface...
BUT it is also a life saver..
IF your going to "play" make sure you have PLENTY of spin of area (on both sides of your exit line)
^ that run off on the inside looks like a dream

the fence line is pretty much next to public roads... last season a viper boiled it's breaks after(in the breaking zone) the long straight and floated over the gravel trap through two hay bails and in to the fence in the ditch only 6 feet from a highway LOL he was one lucky dude!.
