Ralliart VS Evolution
Ralliart VS Evolution
I am planning on buying a 08-10 and I want to do some exhaust, intake, computer flash mods to get more power but I want to do mods that wont affect my warranty or stuff that can go back to stock easily...I am stuck between the ralliart or evo gsr/mr...I was wondering if they both come with the same internals...cams, pistons, rods, crank...I am sure i can get 300hp out of a ralliart for pretty cheap but I want to make sure the internals are the same as the evo so I dont have to worry about wear and decreased life expectancy because this will be a dialy driver! After the warranty is up i am also going to upgrade the turbo and do more mods to get 450-550hp out of it but for now I am going to stick to the 300-350hp range...Any help or info is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
edit- i know the gsr and mr probably have the same internals but what about the ralliart? Because the ralliart only comes with like 240hp i believe....what does the evo have tp boost it up to 291?

Zebra, in a perfect world, they can void warranty if they can relate to the parts involved....but we r not living in a perfect world, and they will void warranty as soon as u step up the power. At least that's how it is mostly here in the states.
A bigger, twin scroll turbocharger makes the difference. The internals are the same. 4B11T in both. 300 hp to the wheels will be very difficult on the RA stock turbo. You can do a turbo swap to acheive higher numbers. But honestly if you want to eventually get 450-550 out of it you're probably better off getting the evo. Anything you mod on your car can void the warranty IF they can relate the problem to the part installed.
interesting...Ya i wouldnt be doing any turbo upgrades until after the warranty was up but i think i could get away with a computer reprogrammer and some other small stuff. I think i am going to go with the evo anyways...But i heard that the 2012 lancer ralliart is going to have around 260hp and is going to come with the Evo's AWD system...If that is the case i might have to wait and get that but most likely I am going to go for the 08 evo..I found one with 24K miles for $26K....Good deal?
Also when I do end up kicking up the HP with a new turbo and intercooler should I also be updating the clutch or any other components? Will the internals handle power like that and still last?

Half the time you cant get anything warrantied if you are completely stock. What the hell is the point of buying an evo and not modding it? You have to get a custom tune on it to make it run correctly ( reduce the knock and lean it out so it does not run so pig rich).
You dont buy an Evo for the warranty. If you do, then you are not the brightest crayon in the box. By installing an intake, exhaust, 3-port and tune you will not do anything to the car that will hurt it unless the tune is horrible but then that is your fault for not going to an experience evo X tuner. These four parts/service will make the car run so much better than stock and will not hurt anything.
The common items that break the dealership usually doesnt cover like, clutch and transfer case pins. These can be related to launching your car and the dealership will say that you abused the car and void the warranty. POOOOF there goes the warranty!
I was thinking about selling my evo x and buying a ralliart but the ralliart does not have super sport mode like the MR does. That is a huge difference until they figure out how to tune the clamping pressure and other things in the SST. The ralliart does not have the suspension and handling that the evo does. It also doesnt have the visual body kit that the evo has. I am sure there is some more things i am forgetting at the moment.

As for the RA having the EVOs AWD system, they already have it... from the IX. The difference is, they have no AYC, and as a result, no SAWC. And that is still a polarizing topic, as some people would rather have the 100-150 lbs back.

In terms of power, the best numbers you can hope for with the RA turbo are just a little better than stock EVO X numbers. The engine internals are the same, but it has a smaller I/C, more restrictive exhaust, and (IMO, the biggest bottle neck) the TC-SST transmission won't hold as much power.
In my opinion, the best setup for the RA (short of making it a dedicated track car), is upgrading to an EVO turbo and shooting for 300/300 whp/wtq. You'll have to put a lot of money into other areas, such as suspension and brakes, but the best you can hope for is a slightly-better-than-stock-EVO car.
Of course, don't get me wrong, I think the RA is a great car, and had it been offered in a 5- or 6-speed manual, I probably wouldn't have went with the GSR.
You have other things to consider, too... such as budget. The EVO will run, minimum, $8-10k more than the RA, will be more expensive to insure, will be more expensive to keep and maintain, etc. However, the RA will depreciate faster, will cost you more to bring up to "EVO performance levels," and, ultimately, never will see the same performance an EVO is capable of achieving.
Bottom line, if you're interested in performance (and it sounds like you are), go with the EVO.
