Transmission might be done...

Well the other day my wife saw that there was oil leaking from the nex evo x that i bought used . i was told the car did have somethings on it before but it was not on there long at all. except the fact that from what it looks like on the out side the diff pins that they welded came through the side of the trans! so if the welds were bad and that is what caused this then not mentioning any shop names but somewhere in houston will be getting a very bad rep from me. on the other side any one know where i can get a good deal on a used trans for a 2008 EVO X GSR I realy need one like now....

btw i have had the car less then a month...

Man that sucks... I saw a used one recently on ebay, needed rebuilt. Pick it up and send it straight to shep, for about 2250 you could have one good to go. (less installation)

Jacks transmission says they can repair the cracked cases and fix the diff so it will not happen again. I would give them a call.

Well after further investigation the differential is done. The pins have groved all parts that they touch and the gears were a bit wore down. Better to be safe so I ordered an upgraded diff from sheps

Lol no did nothing for me because I was not the original person that had the work done by them... Even tho these pictures prove that they can't weld and shows their quality. This is all out of my pocket sadly

1. When this work was done for the original customer he was told that we did not know if it would solve the isssue with the pins backing out.

2. Even upgraded pins back out, as I have seen this first hand also, even with them welded fully, except when they back out after being welded fully, the ruin the differntial carrier.

3. The surface tack welds were done so that in the case the diff needed to be taken out and serviced, the pins could be removed without damaging the carrier. I have seen first hand fully welded upgraded dif pins back out on another heavily drag raced car from Antigua. They were welded after the backed out, and they backed out again.

4. This exact type of mod has been done on dsm's with success, hence the reason why it was thought of to try on this car.

5. The original customer had this car tuned way beyond its reasonable limits, and was informed of it at the time of the tune, and even had to sign an additional waiver acknowledging that the car was being taken past its safe limits. He did not care because he wanted to race the car and was not planning on keeping it long enough to blow it up.

6. This car was drag raced very heavily and this type of pin damage is consistent with frequent launching of the car full on.

7. This car was previously modded with full bolt ons including straight pipe exhaust, fuel system and e-85. The owner stocked the car prior to trade in, as is commonly done.

8. FYI it ran 12.1 consistently on the stock turbo, just about every weekend the previous owner had it, and street raced hard at least 3 nights a week.

9. The welding of the pins did NOT cause the pins to back out. Faulty design of the diff by Mitsubishi caused the pins to back out.

10. I have seen Jacks mod on the Evo X diff, and it looks very good. If that doesn't fix the issue with the pins backing out nothing will. However when this differential was done, Jacks was not doing his mod yet (to my knowledge because I checked).

11. Since Jacks has started doing his mod, we don't do this mod any longer, and recommend sending the diffs out for Jack's mod.

You bought a used car. You did not have any of the original work done. You don't have all the facts. I can understand why a person would be upset having just bought a car and having the transmission fail. However the diff pins backing out is a KNOWN issue with these cars. Claiming that SSP does shoddy work because you are unhappy and did not do your homework on the car before buying it is NOT SSP's FAULT, it is yours. The stickers were still on the car when you bought it, and had you taken the time to call us BEFORE you bought the car, we would have told you to run away very fast. You didn't, and the only person you have to blame for your situation is yourself.

I purchased a used trans of a part out thread on here and sent the trans right to shep ! Contact them, sometimes they have a trans around.... I am on my third trans lol this is the first one with the diff mod so im curious to see how it holds up. I wouldn't blame SSP for this, I would blame the previous owner for being cheap/lazy to do it the correct way
