I am uninstalling my HKS EVC if that is any indication. The tuner said it was really tricky to get it to hold boost so he put on the grimmspeed. I would go with MBC.

The vast majority of folks are gonna recommend an EBC. With the right tuner they can control your boost level better. A MBC is probably easier to work with because it's just a more simple piece of.. well.. metal or whatever they make them out of. I'm currently haven't terrible problems trying to get my stock or aftermarket electronic boost controller to work (see my post below this) and may have to get a manual one.... shudder*.

i had an apexi avcr for my evo IX and it didn't go well.... so i decided to go with mbc for my X. i know you can do more with ebc but it don't want to pay $400+ again with more tuning problems. any opinions on grimmspeed 3 port???? thanks

not trying to thread jack, but i have the grimmspeed installed, and the first day after the tune, the boost wasnt very consistent, it would spike 28, fall to 20 and then climb back up to 26 where it should be set at...took it back and had the tuner smooth it out some, but occassionally the car is still jerky at times..do i just need to buy a tactrix and smooth out the wgdc tables a lil more?

if you are spiking 28 psi and dropping and climbing back up again, it sounds like you are hitting a boost limit.

buying a tactrix openport is never a bad idea. getting a datalog of the rpm, load, boost, active wgdc would help you diagnose this for sure.

see this thread, post 3 seems to apply in your situation.

thanks for the reply momo...i remember that the tuner said because the car was on the dyno and not the street, the ecu loads the boost different, so he took it on the street with me and did some logs/changes...the car feels alot better now than it did before, but just still has some noticable jerkiness...especially if im above 3500 rpm or so and try to nail it...its a hit or miss..sometimes it pulls perfectly, other times its jerky..but its not hitting a hard boost cut! i know what that feels like lol..i think its because he was only tuning for WOT...so the part throttle and load transitions upset the car..tactrix it is
