cams

playing to buy cams real soon. but cant decided which ones to get. im running the stock turbo with full bolt ons and e85. i was looking at GSC s1 and GSC s2 cams. but i was wondering if it was worth me getting the S2 cams since im on the stock turbo. does it help make more power than the s1 cams on the stock turbo? if anyone has any other suggestions on cams please let me know. thanks

Have you looked into Kelford 214-a cams? They're good for stock springs and turbo.

people have been suggesting those as well. but i've seen a lot of people running the 214b cams. i dont mind upgrading my springs for cams, but i just wanna know if it makes a difference if i run bigger cams on the stock turbo.

Get an EF2 instead. Cams are not as easy to slap in on an X, and you'll get far more power out of a turbo upgrade!

I am no expert and new to the EVO, but after 6 months of researching like a madman and discussing with shops like AMS and CBRD, it seems cams is a very costly venture for little performance especially on a stock turbo. But to each their own and like I said I am no expert. If you do it, let me us know how it goes and what performance gains you saw and if it was worth it.

Since you are on stock turbo, I would go with the S1's. I have an Evo IX still on stock turbo. I have the S1's on my car and absolutely love them. No regrets. But if you plan on upgrading the turbo any time soon, then go with the S2's with upgraded valve train. But if you are going to be on stock turbo for a while, go with the S1's and you can still use your stock valve train. Look at my mod list in my sig, and I can run high 11's. So I think you will love the S1's. They also have a good lope to them. Here is the video of the S1's on my IX.

Ah just realized you have an X. So I cant speak on behalf of your generation. But I have heard great things. And you cant go wrong with GSC cams. But on stock turbo, go with the S1'.

yeah i was thinking about getting a FP red turbo, but then i realized that if i upgrade my turbo, id also want to build my motor cause id want to get as much power out of the turbo as i can without blowing my stock motor. but then itd be too costly. so i just decided to finish all my bolt ons for my car with e85. thanks for the advice tho

thanks for the video. i wonder if it would sound the same on a x. but i think im going to go with the s1 cams. not really looking to upgrade my turbo, so the s1's sound like theyd do the job.

From other threads on here there are very minimal if any gains with cams on stock turbo.

Don't be silly. Just get an EF2 or BBX Lite or whatever, something that will give you a nice healthy boost in power but not push the stock longblock too far. Stock longblock ftw (IMHO). When you get together the time and cash to do the motor, then crank the boost on the little turbo or upgrade to something bigger as part of the motor job and sell off the smaller turbo.

A turbo swap on these cars is not that difficult, once you have all the basic bolt-ons it's the best bang/buck upgrade you can do, unless you wanna do an aquamist for meth injection or maybe e85 conversion.

I agree wih the above-

26.5 psi on an EF2 or BBX lite type turbo, 385-410whp--- and all day long-

turbo + injectors + tune = 65-100 more whp over stock turbo

or cams + tune = 15-20whp-

I think it's clear which choice to go with.
