Need Help on Power Mods!

Hey guys...

Switched from an 11 STi to a 12 Evo X. Not exactly sure on which route to go to achieve my goal since I have no knowledge on Evo's. I know it's easier to make power out of an evo compared to the STi. I wanted to know what power mods will I need to achieve 300-330 whp and about the same amount of torque on a Mustang Dyno?

Can I achieve this with just CBE, CAI and a Tune? If not, what else will I need to add? The car will not be tracked but will see some spirited driving here and there. It will be mostly my daily driven car.

Thanks guys!

Basically what's referred to as "Stage 2" would be fine for your goals. Turboback exhaust, intake, IC piping + FMIC if you have the cash, 3-port boost control solenoid, and a tune.

Okay. I'm a little confused on what's actually a TBE for the evo. For the STi the tbe consisted of dp + cbe. What's the Testpipe in the evo? Is that the cat? The cat for the sti is located with the dp.

Sorry for the noobish Qs.

So a stage 1 evo with just cbe n cai will not net 300whp on a mustang?
Thanks Kracka

In the Evo the testpipe is separate from the DP. The TBE exhaust on the evo consists of o2 housing, downpipe, testpipe, and catback. You can get some downpipes that include the o2 housing (MAP/ETS), aka o2 housing eliminating downpipes, or you can get just a downpipe that bolts up to your stock O2 housing so you can leave the stock o2 housing on and get a o2 housing back exhaust system. Removing the stock o2 housing is a pain and most say it's not really worth it for power levels on the stock turbo.

You won't hit 300whp without a tune, you should def consider getting a tune and a Grimmspeed 3 port along with the CBE and intake you referenced, that should get you 300whp, I THINK.

Hope this helps

On Mitsubishis the stock catalytic converter is not integrated into the downpipe like it is on Subarus, you can replace it with either a testpipe or a HFC. A "Stage 1" (intake + catback exhaust + tune) should be good for right around 300whp on a Mustang dyno.

Gotcha. Can I leave the stock dp but add HFC TP, CBE, Intake, 3 Port BC and tune and should net me a little over 300whp?

I really appreciate all the responses.

It should, some don't recommend swapping the DP on a stock turbo. You could go through the dyno results sub-forum to see what people with those types of mods put down to get an idea. You could also look at the cobb dyno database:

I would do a 3" downpipe too, they're cheap and easy.

get in touch with Tachmotorworks in New York and buy from them a down pipe, cat back and maybe because of your state you may need a high flow cat if not then pitch the cat and replace it with a test pipe. and then an intake and call it a day or tune it.

As everyone else here stated; a catback exhaust, test pipe, upper intercooler pipe, intake, and tune will definitely get you in the 300+whp range unless the tuner sucks. You don't even need a full on intake, a drop in will do.

All parts plus install plus tune in my sig (engine wise - bolt ons) ran me around $5000.

I'm pushing 330/325 on a conservative tune as my car is running slightly rich (carbon deposits on my exhausts after a couple of days), but I prefer that over pushing the envelope and risk running lean.

Nice,,, those are the numbers i'd to get achieve!! still thinking if I want to go dp or not but my definite mods are CBE, HFC, INTAKE, UICP, MBC/EBC.

I'm in CT and was looking for a good reputable tuner around the tr-state area. I've always been tuned by Chris (RIP) of EFI with my STi but i've heard nothing but great things about Jamie at Dynotech, E-Spec and Ivey...any suggestions?

I don't know anything about EFI, but from what I've heard they're pretty reputable.

I personally brought my car to Sean Ivey in Elizabeth NJ and I couldn't be any happier with the work they've done. Extremely professional and very friendly bunch of guys. If I choose to do anything else to the car, it is a no-brainer for me to go back to them again.

Any reason why you don't want a DP? MAP has a really nice one...ceramic coated/flanged.
