Levar, yea Im talk about an Evo X...

Chetrickerman, as long as im progressing in pwr gains and not backing off thats good so the Green still sounds good and Chad Block is my tuner and I TRUST his knowledge and work BUT...

BlueX702 is sayin the little bit of lag on the Red is almost forgettable...Now when When u say lag...how much lag, when does it start to spool or when does boost kick in?

At 6000 ft altitude I can get my journal bearing red to 27 psi by 4k rpm in 3rd gear BUT the torque leading up to that is awesome. Its not an on/off type of thing, its a more gradual thing. The power the red makes before its spooled is great.

Thats why I said, you will notice the lag, but you wont feel it. The red flows enought air before it is spooled up that the daily driving torque is excellent.

BUT, thats only if your MIVEC is tuned right

That is extremely interesting!!!!I really wish I knew somebody here that had a Red so I could feel exactly what the spool up is like!!!

I'm Also slightly confused by this.
Now the green would also have a gradual torque curve... just lower in the Rpm's?
And 3rd gear pull was from no spool at all? Full vacuum?

This is something I've been going back and forth with for over a year now, green/red/bbx lite. I'm not interested in E85 since I can't get it everywhere in AZ (well the places I drive too). My concern is braking the engine. I just don't want to sink in major $$$ to get the engine built up but I want a little more power out of the engine. I guess it's a catch 22 thing. My goal is 400+ at the wheels and nice torque (without worrying that I'll be popping my engine), and obviously I would have the correct supporting mods to get to my goal.

The red will easily get you to your goal without pushing anything.

This is EXACTLY what im talking about!!!!!!
I thought the Red would b more likely to break something simply becuz it generates more pwr/torque...But form what im gathering its becuz of the Greens extremely quick spool and torque curve it is more capable of breaking something w/o more internal upgrades...Of course the minimal supporting mods such as injectors would b installed also but I dont wanna have to get much more internal upgrades as well...

But the point of puttin $$$ into an upgrade that will shortly make me want more is such a blower also...Now is the Green and Red were priced differently respectively to their pwr gains then the choose might b easier to make however since they r all the same price 1would want to make the correct choice 1st but to there goals but thats the hard part w/o an actually test drive prior...

Get the red. Get tuned. Get back to us when your face is put back on from being melted off

Not to say the green wouldn't reach you goals.. it would.. I would just prefer the red and have room for improvement.

This is my 2-cents…

If you didn’t know already, the green is a 50 trim and the red is a 60-1. Both of them use a 8cm2 housing TDO6H. Note that the Red is clipped for more grunt up top in addition to a larger thrust bearing center section.

They are BOTH great turbos in my opinion! The green can be ran on a stock bottom end and will even get BETTER gains with some head work such as cams, etc. Quicker spool and still RIDICULOUS respectable whp/tq! The red on the other hand can (in my opinion) push the stock internals past what most would call "reasonable/safe/long term longevity" circumstances (that of course is all depending on the tune for both). Like stated previously, if you’re looking just to be a DD (no REAL drag racing or auto-x) and want to have something fun, reliable and that can maul nearly anything out there then I would go green. I could careless about the max numbers game in the end for only .5 sec maybe in the ¼ mile (risk vs reward). If your looking to take on a ZL1, GTR, GT500 and other vehicles in that class you are still gonna be hard pressed to do that with a red on 91 and not E85. I want fun, quick, safe and reliable. But then again the statement can be flipped with the question of “why don’t you just stay stock then”…lol.

In the end get what makes you happy! To me realistically most people invest a crap ton of money on a car that they will only keep for 4-5 years at most. So that I’m not pissed off at the end with all the $$$$ “invested” I would do a green plus supporting mods and call it a day. But then again the “power” bug continues to get us all in the end…

I'm on stock turbo and sub'd to the thread because the same upgrade questions are going through my head. A friend with an 8 is pulling great 1/4mi and dyno numbers on a BB Green and loves it (even with his 2.3L).

My thoughts, go green. If you need more power later, you can definitely sell a green to someone else and recoup a lot of the cost.

An Evo 8/9 FP green is much different than an Evo 10 FP green. The Evo 8/9 compressor covers flow a better than our Evo 10 compressor covers so they are able to make a bit more power.
