Leaking transfer case fluid, going to dealership
Leaking transfer case fluid, going to dealership
Briefly searched on google, it seems this is a quite common issue for alot evo x owners which I didn't expect. I am driving a 2010 model Evo X GSR.
Noticed it about 2~ months ago, took it to the dealership, it wasn't serious at the time, merely some damps. So they refused to do anything other than cleaned it up for me. Now for the past a week or so I could smell burning oils every time I drove my evo for more than 30min. I knew the leak got worse. I could trace the fluids all the way back to the muffler.
So I called the dealership today and scheduled to take it in after labor day next week. Hopefully this time they will fix it for me while it is still under warranty.
I will keep you guys posted.

Some threads mentioned the owners had to have their transfer case replaced to fix this either an overfill or a seal leak between the xfer case and the tranny?
I really hope I don't have to do this. Better double making sure everything is still under warranty when I drop my car off at the dealership next week. I have an aftermarket air intake, a short shifter and a custom tune. Maybe its safer to reset it back to factory just in case. For the last couple of visits to dealers I didn't bother to do it.

Thanks guys. Got the car back from dealership last night, it was as I expected the seal that was leaking between transfer case and rear drive shaft. According to the technician, it was re-sealed. He had to take off the rear drive shaft to do the job. But it was all done within half a day. 0 charge, all under warranty.
I will for sure lift it up on the weekend to verify everything myself again. Trust no one, right

Forgot to ask the other question. The invoice/report sheet I got back from the dealership mentioned that transfer case oil was topped once it was re-sealed, which makes sense since it must have leaked more oil during the re-seal process. But my question is that I flushed the transfer case oil at friend's shop a few weeks ago with non-stock fluids (AMSOIL to be exact). So right now my transfer case is probably running mixed brand oils in it. Should I be concerned about this?
I mean its not too big of a deal, I could always order another bottle and flush it again. But you think it's necessary?
