Engine sputter around 6500-7000rpm...
Hey guys, so i finally broke 1k miles and decided to do a few WOT runs the other night on my way home from work, and was perfect up until i got to about 4th gear at 6500-6800 rpm; i started feeling some sputtering almost like the engine cutting off. I figured it might have been since the car hadn't seen that much fuel going in at once.
Then, last night i decided to do a couple runs against my buddy's 08 TL type s and everything was good, until i got to the top of 3rd and same thing at the top of 4th. Im not a street racer by any means but just wanted to see what the potential of the car was and it seems like its really being held back by this "fuel cut off" at the top of the power band.
Im almost at the point where im going to go to the dealership to see if one of their techs has any idea of what it might be. if anyone has any helpful info please feel free to let me know.
thanks in advance

There's no way, this is happening way before the red line and i have no issues with it in the lower gears (1-3). Its only sometimes top of 3rd gear and 4th. Unless what your saying is that the car can only rev to 6800 stock?..

How far were you going in 1st and 2nd (what rpm)? The rev limiter is I believe 7500? Also, if your car is 100% stock there is no need to go that high. Your power-band ends before that and you don't really gain anymore power after like 6.2k rmps or so.
I was revving to 7k if not a little lower. I understand that the car stock doesn't make power up there but in the lower gears it has no hesitation revving. It seems to stutter on its way up after 6k and gets very sputtery after 6500 but only when in a higher gear like 4th and sometimes 3rd.
so I looked for a leak of any kind today to see if that might have been why, cheked the AFR line that goes to the intake manifold to make sure it was still connected, and nothing.
Then, did a couple pulls and no hesitation. Im thinking i just need either a tune or thinking of getting the COBB AP..
any insight or suggestions are welcome

A Stage 1 map on an otherwise stock Evo is actually a pretty decent mod, you'll see more gains from that than you will just slapping on intake/exhaust w/o a tune.
If you're at all worried about your car though, a trip to the dealership to have it inspected/documented is never a bad idea, especially considering how new your car is.
