More issues..... P0017 CEL

So if anybody read I went to the stealership the other day and got 2 ECU flashes done on my 2010'. One for the ACD pump and the other for the codes P0016 and P0017 "Crankshaft/Camshaft position sensor". Well today I went out and crunk my car up, started fine, and had a CEL. So I went to a local shop and had them check out the code, turns out it is a P0017 code, the exact issue I had the car flashed for the other day.

I know this is somehow related to the timing chain stretch issue that several other owners have had issue with. Then, today, as I started my car, the light has gone away now. Still running fine, so what do I do? I already have an appt scheduled next week with the stealership (I know I'm going back on my word about never going to them again, but from what I'm told, the timing chain issues ARE covered under the powertrain warranty)

Should I still go if the light stays off? I really don't know what to do here? Some advice from any fellow owners who have had similar issues?

Just took my car out around the block and still no CEL light.

Makes no sense to me, my ACD pump is fine when it's cold out but cuts out in the heat
Now this happens when it's cold outside, but doesn't come on when it's warm outside....

Code came on this morning after work and was on on my drive home the whole way. I was due to change my oil today, had 3400 miles on 5W-30 Mobil 1 Extended Performance. **I replaced with the same oil and Mobil one EP filter as well**

Went ahead and changed both my intake filter (stock intake, replaced the filter with a Purolator drop in), and changed my cabin air filter as well. After initial crank up following the oil change the CEL was still on.

After I let it sit for 30 or so minutes, I checked the oil level again, which was fine, roughly about 4.75 quarts used, I turned the car on again and the CEL was gone.

This is the third time this has happened, the light will stay on for 50 miles or so and then go off again, if it comes on again, I'm going to keep my appt with the dealer on Thursday and go back. Hopefully it will be something that is covered under the powertrain warranty this time.

FWIW, I took a sample of the oil to send it off to Blackstone Labs for analysis, going to mail it out later this week. Maybe they can tell me something I don't know, the oil was pretty dark also. Next time I may replace my oil at 2500 miles.

Another update, CEL has been off now for 24 hours. One of the underlying issues with the P0017 is dirty oil, I'm curious as to whether I may have waited to long to do an oil change. I was driving pretty hard throughout the life of the oil, maybe I should have changed a little bit sooner? Any input on this guys?

Well looks like the issue is the timing chain position sensor. Tech cleaned off the sensor and sent me on my way, said that if the light comes back on, they're going to have to replace the sensor, hopefully it should be covered under warranty...

Any one have any idea how long a timing chain replacement is going to take to complete? Dealer says that the chain is bad, going to be covered under warranty. I'm under the impression that the oil chain has to be replaced also when the process is done. Just trying to find out how long it will be out of commission.

It really depends on the dealer and how busy they are. They can do it in one day.

First the dealer said the chain was fine, and then its bad. Why did they change their minds?

I have to agree, I would give them a day to do it.

Not really sure why or what changed, but they're the only Mitsu dealer within probably 50-75 miles, so they're generally pretty busy. I'm ok with them taking their time. At least I shouldn't have to worry about chain stretch anymore. I'll find out more details when I go back to pick it up.

same isssue with hard code P0017, soft code P0016

All

I am having this issue as well. I just had my Tomei 280 cams, with valve springs and retainers. I had a new timing chain, and tensioner installed thinking it was the problem. NOPE! the hard code P0017 keeps coming back. I believe that is the exhaust side. I have a new sensor coming tomorrow hoping its the problem. What else could this be????? HELP!!!! Car runs perfect with the engine light off and on. no performance issues.
