I had my tuner retune it. Most of it went away but it was still there. He said it happens to all evo's. I don't know how true that is. Remember this is a part throttle say at 50mph in 5th gear and you try to pass someone and give it gas. At WOT it was a beast....

Your tuner is right. That noise is present in almost all Evo X's...but with the stock airbox it is muffled and not audible. Once you throw an open air intake on it, with steel piping, the noise is much louder. Don't worry about it. I had the same exact noise when I put my ETS intake, etc on, and people kept saying I had compressor surge and was gonna ruin my turbo. Turns out it's a non issue.

Unless you are noticeably losing power during the sputtering sound, or feel the car getting jolty, then it is honestly just a normal noise that you happen to be able to hear now.

Trust the tuners, they usually know more than a bunch of people on forums

Put the stock intake back on you won't hear it any more.

Well I don't really believe all of it. My buddy has and ets intake, upper ic pipe, cbe, test pipe. His car doesn't make the noise. Tuner said it was because he didn't have the grimmspeed ebcs. The tuner that tuned my car tuned my buddy same day. I kinda let it go because I knew I was going to get a job offer that was far from me and knew I had to trade in my car otherwise I would have taken it to another tuner. I did feel like the car did lose a bit of power when it made this noise btw. Kinda like if it was being held back or if it had a leak. While WOT it pulled like a freight train. I did check for leaks and I had zero.
