Weird noise from Exhaust manifold?!
Weird noise from Exhaust manifold?!
I just got a 2013 Evo MR. I have about 600 miles on it right now. I just noticed a sound coming from the exhaust manifold area that I am wondering if it is normal. The only way I can describe it is as a rhythmic "tink-tink-tink-tink." (please save the Kat Williams jokes until AFTER my mind is eased
) I'm freaking out a little.
Thanks in advance

When does the sound happen? If this while the car is running?, does it get louder throughout the RPM band?, does it happen when the vehicle is off?
The exhaust is going to make noises after the car is shut off due to the expansion of the exhaust components and will halt shortly once the exhaust has been broken in, you see this alot on newer cars and with cars that have new aftermarket exhausts and is completely normal.
If the noise is relative to the RPM band then it could be a possible exhaust leak; however, the presence of an exhaust leak on such a new car with such few miles is relatively low. If it doesn't get worse while increasing load and is only noticeable at idle then it is highly unlikely that its an exhaust leak. With the car on, pop the hood and do an inspection around the back side of the motor looking for carbon buildup around the joint at the downpipe and the turbo, if it is a leak there then a noticeable carbon buildup would be obvious but I'd have to agree with the statements made earlier that its probably your injectors ticking. Mitsubishi has finally grasped how to quiet the famous valve tick from the DSM days but the injectors or horrendously loud.
If your concern notes the trip to the dealership then by all means, prepare to waste a couple hours between the explanation of whats going on/the wait time/techs contesting they can't reproduce the issue/re-examination/and the conclusion of what they will surely tell you....."Thats normal for the Evolutions. . .<-Including some off the wall explanation that, more often than not, makes no sense."
Hope you get your problem fixed man...enjoy your new ride and as always, Welcome to the club.

Yeah man, guarantee its just the injectors firing. Nothing to fret man...its common for EVO owners to constantly say, "whats that smell." And, "whats the noise." Its a paranoia you inherit upon ownership...lol enjoy your new ride brother!
