awc/ayc pump replacement

I'm in the same boat as many others with a bad awc/ayc pump. I just purchased a used pump from someone parting out their car. Before I install it, I was planning on sealing the joints which look like the problem areas that cause the corrosion issues. I was planning on using a high temp silicone product.

Has anyone else done this before?

Any recommendations?

Depending on the age and previous location of your new-to-you pump, you might want to have it rebuilt before installing it, just to reduce the chance of doing the job twice. Then you shoot it with silicone sealant and cover it with marine grease.

The pump looks minty fresh. It's from an Arizona car with less than 20K on it. Is high temperature a concern for the silicone?

I've been trolling the classified adds for about a year. I found someone parting out a totaled car and the situation was right so I jumped on it. Rebuilding was an option I considered too.

Good luck with the search.

Not the temps it'll see in PA. Do what Kiki and other have suggested for sealing it up, consider getting a Carbing shield for it, and count yourself lucky for finding a used pump in good shape.

I was talking to a mec. friend that works for Mitsu today and he was telling me that he pulled a couple apart and cleaned them and they pressured up again... so it would seem that cold adds to the issue according to him but corrosion is the big problem.
