Timing Chain help!!
Timing Chain help!!
I have a 2008 EVO X, yesterday my car was driving fine. I shut my car off for 5 mins. Once I started it I got a triangle and exclamation mark appeard on my dash. I am going crazy because I just bought this car 3 months ago. I looked in my owners manual and it said that mesage is for a timing chain. I find that weird since I only have 68,000 miles on my car. I had an 05 Legacy GT Limited and it used a timing belt which needed changing at 100K miles, and I know the chain is suppose to be a lot better than the belt. This is bad timing since its the weekend and Christmas is next week so a lot of shops are closed, I couldnt call and get a quote or anything. I did have a crank no start once but on the second try the car came on, also noticing some rattling coming from the engine (not knocking). I read that both of those are symptoms of a bad timing chain.
Does anyone know how much it costs to get a timing chain replaced? Also does that fall within the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty? I am looking to take it to the dealership after Christmas. I posted a picture of the message I recieved.
Thanks!

Best to get the code read with an ODB2 scanner. If it's the timing chain, have it towed to the dealership to get it checked out -- *don't* drive it there. Hopefully it's the stretch warning or something else. Good luck!
It's probably the stretch warning. I believe the warning comes on at 2mm stretch and 3mm is engine damage. Also, your drivetrain warranty from the factory is only 5 years / 60000 miles I believe, unless you have extended coverage. My chain stretched (it was covered) and it took the dealership almost the full day to change out.
I had this right before vthe 60000 mile mark. I took it to mitsu and it took them approximately two days to get it done. It pretty much sucked dropping it off.....Also make sure when they change it out that you get the new chain....because it typically is caused by the older style chain. The link is below.
