Stock Clutch Replacement
Stock Clutch Replacement
My clutch has recently started to slip, only in the higher gears at first, and has worked its way down to being noticeable in 3rd. I am in the process of shopping for a replacement and doing research through evom.
Let me start off by saying my goals for the car to increase power are only intake, TBE, and tune. I also DD my Evo as well.
After reading through old threads I’ve noticed some similarities and I have a few questions:
Based on my power goals for the car should I replace the CMC and the flywheel (or resurface) in addition to the clutch?
In terms of aftermarket clutch kits would you recommend Exedy or ACT? I’ve read about bad experiences with both.
Sorry for this topic I feel it is repeated often, but I have not seen any recent threads from 2014 and I am hoping for some updated opinions.
Thanks,

For my 08 I went with a competition clutch stage 3. I personally like it. Has a bit of chatter and the pedal pressure is a bit hard, but it grabs awesome. I have autox and tracked and it holds up great.
My wife did not care for the pedal feel, so for her evo we decided to try something else. We went with the exedy HD as it has a 400+tq rating so when we bump her power it will hold. Now she prefers mine. The exedy is stiffer than the competition. I can't tell much about driveability as we just finished breaking it in, but it doesnt have any chatter.
Most people say the ACT is the clutch to get, however after running the competition I cannot justify the $300 price point. Until I can find some fault with my competition clutch it will be my choice.
