I have Two Turbos, which one should I install?

I have a new FP Green BB and a new 18K

My mistake that I ordered two of them.

Both flow at 54, plus and minus a little bit on spool

EVO X MR with complete boltons

Should I install the 18k or BB and why?

I'm in the market for one myself. What are you going to do with the other one after install? I might be willing to take it off of your hands.

Can't remember is the 18k a ball bearing or journal? I'd say the green simply due to BB. If MHI is BB then never mind, flip a coin.

I would personally go with the MHI and sell the BB Green. When (read: if ever) you manage to get the turbo to blow, buy another one of your choosing. I personally don't think BB are worth it at that size / flow rate, and the BB Green is probably worth more, so that is the one I'd sell.

^ Apparently you can beat the mess out of FP Greens and they last forever... The MHI 18k is practically it's replacement. I've made up my mind, I'm about to buy a new MHI 18k.

They are indentical accept for FP Green is BB and 18k is not. Both flow 54lbs a minute. If you want to save more $ keep the cheaper turbo and sell the 1 worth more. Otherwise keep the BB Green for the better boost response.

The spool will be no different, maybe 100 rpms, nothing anyone will notice. BB doesn't increase spool, it keeps the turbo spooled longer though between shifts, thus increasing transient response. With a turbo this small though, transient will be almost as good on a JB though.

And reliability, nothing will compete with the OEM mitsu made one, aka the MHI. FP is good but the biggest problem with hogging out OEM turbos is reliability is always questionable.

How often do you hear of a mitsu turbo failing? Almost never. FP/MAP/CBRD etc, fail on a rather frequent basis.

I would sell the green and pocket the extra cash and run the MHI.

We have seen plenty of OEM MHI turbos fail-

all turbos can fail- generally for any of them- its an issue that is non manufacture related (for example- boost leaks, bad oil, contamination etc)

Interesting. I haven't heard of any but obviously you see more evos than I do

I agree, most failures are from the items mentioned above or user error, however as much as I like shops like yourself I still personally just trust mitsu to make a turbo a bit more.

I guess all the OEM mitsu turbos I have seen on evo's, dsm's etc always seem to last A LONG time and take a beating and keep on going.

But I do agree with you, valid point.
