Will my AEM intake be a restriction?

Hello,

Just making sure I do it right the first time.

In a few weeks a built and sleeved 2.0 liter with a built head (ported +1 valves, GSC S2 and beehive springs) is going into my 2012 Evo. I'll be running an externally gated GTX3576R on a full race manifold.

Although capable of more, I am shooting for 550 awhp.

What I dont want is a choke point and Im unsure if the AEM intake will flow enough to meet those goals efficiently. I dont care about buying a new intake if I need to, I just really the look of the intake I have now. Obviously looks need to come second.

So what do you think? If I need to switch, what do you recommend?

you will need 3.5 intake. kozmic can make a custom intake for u and u will be still able to use the aem box. or you can buy one from skaura, map or automovtive.

you will need to upgrade to a 3 inch maf housing for your goals. aem retains the stock which will likely max out before your goals

The stock maf housing becomes a restriction around 500whp. I would go with a 3.5". Both ETS and MAP offer them.

The AEM intake does not retain the stock MAF housing, it uses a larger one. That said, for the OP's goals it will be a restriction and like others have said, a 3.5" MAF housing will be better.

Also the AEM has another restriction, which is the lid. At higher flows the lid creates a restriction which causes the rubber part of the intake to collapse onto itself and choke the motor. Just taking the lid off the box totally stops this issue from happening.

Some data around this I captured from years ago, the intake choking the motor from 31psi to 1.5psi:
