HKS Super Turbo Muffler Installed - Review

With no real interest in making power on this car since its my wifes, I switched from a loud exhaust to the HKS Super Turbo Muffler. I had read some reviews about it being quite, but I had no idea. I should have expected that since were leaving the Cat In tact, that it would in deed be quiet.

Heres a sound clip at idel.

........

Im sure it would make some noise with not car in place. Maybe once she give the car to me.

Fitment- Perfect! HKS Suggested to remove the Rear Driver side Tow hook for clearance, But i didn't find it needed at all. Everything was spot on, even the tips lined up perfect on both sides with no Adjustment. HKS Supplied gaskets and hardware were all good to go.

The big 5" tips fit the car well with our wheel setup. If you were running stock wheels on non offset wheels, they may look a little to big. But with these 18x10.5 +15 SSR's, it all evens out.

I took the pics off a FB page, let me know if the links work for everyone!

It has picked up a nice little exhaust note after a week of driving. Still not loud by any means, but sounds good.

is this exhaust different from the HKS hi-power dual exhaust? Where did you get this one from?

How you liking this Exhaust so far? Has it gotten louder and how is it holding up?

I have had this set up for over a year and it is good in comparison to the stock exhaust system it is only marginally louder, literally it's hard to tell it's not stock when it's idling. I recently did the cat delete and while the sound increased, it was not by a great amount, certainly no droning on highway runs, but the noise level can increase when you push it

What sort of power are you running through the exhaust. Do you think it can handle 300kW without too much restriction?

I am running a fairly standard Stage 2 map from Cobb, I have an AEM intake and upper IC hard pipes, I don't notice any power drop off that could be caused by a restriction. I certainly noticed that the engine freed up a lot when I removed the cat. I plan on doing a pro tune once I get round to installing a 3port and new DP.

I believe that HKs rate the system to about 600, but I am guessing that's at the fly wheel not at the wheels so a target of 350 should easily be achievable without restriction.

Thanks for the feedback. The Jasma certified jap exhausts tend to be a little restrictive to comply with the noise limits. I have Blitz nur spec c (Jasma certified) which is good but you do lose some top end.

I read a post which said (not sure if it's true in all cases) that the Jasma exhausts had a restrictor inside the muffler to achieve low noise limit.

I'm not sure what a pro tune is but if you want a good custom email tune then get in touch with beeble (Adam wade) in oz.
