Engine Exploded
Engine Exploded
I recently purchased a 2008 Lancer Evolution from a wholesale deal with a blown engine. The previous dealership said that someone was test driving the vehicle and when they were returning to the dealership pulling into driveway they heard a pop and cloud of white smoke came from under the hood.
I purchased a brand new engine however decided to dig deeper and look at the destruction of the bottom end. The connecting rod on cylinder one punched a hole threw both sides of the block and the oil pan. It also blew a chunk out of the piston and damaged 2 intake manifold valves in the head. The oil pump was destroyed along with the oil pump chain, oil pump gear, and both plastic oil pump chain guides.
Below are pictures, however do you think this much damage could have happened at low RPM?

I wonder how many miles were on that engine.
