Clutch very eager to grip.

Evo X Manual 300:
I've had my stock clutch replaced, it was slipping in 3rd. Put in an Exedy clutch, all three parts.

Now it's so much fun again. But....

I've had new clutches before on other cars but none so drastic as this. The clutch biting point is in a nice place still the same, about a third of the way up, but the actual clutch pedal travel between bite and fully engaged might be an inch. It's a ***** to get a start from standing without jerking forwards, 2nd gear isn't much better. I can, if I try really hard, get it to pull away without giving everyone whiplash, but it's/I'm quite slow to react.

So it's either launch into rally mode or driving miss daisy, that and I've stalled it nearly every time I've gone on a journey since, because there wasn't enough gas for rally mode.

So my question is is this normal of a Lancer Evo x? Would removing the clutch pressure regulator valve help? Would adjusting the clutch pedal help?

I've never had a hydraulic clutch before and I'm not sure what can change/adjust this.

Help!

Try adjusting the rod.

I'm assuming you're referring to the rod on the clutch pedal. What would you recommend, lengthening it, shortening it or are you suggesting it might need recalibrating?

Do you feel like there is play in the pedal travel before the clutch starts to disengage? If so lengthen it a few turns until the play is gone.

No the pedal is stiff all the way down. There is room either side of the biting area, but there's no play.

Sounds perfect! Just like my HD Exedy twin. :}

OP, no need to adjust anything--the engagement point is fine. Pulling the restrictor pill will allow you to modulate the clutch a little better and smooth things out. Try that first.

I was thinking of doing this anyway, I don't like the idea of something interfering with the clutch. I'll give that a try, thanks.
