Surge tank (Ebay)
Surge tank (Ebay)
I am looking to get a surge tank for my 2012. Been having fuel loss at a few tracks. I was about to pull the trigger on the MAP kit for about $1050 but I was talking to another evo owner that did his for 500$ buying everything individually and using an Ebay tank. I have never bought anything off ebay for my car but he has been running his for a few years and I figure it's just the tank. I would get the hoses, relay and pump someplace else.
I am not opposed to spending the money if need be but at this time I also need tires, new rings for my girodisk, street pads and replace my raybestos track pads so I already have a ton going out. If I can get the surge tank a little cheaper and it's good quality, I may as well.
Anyone else out there have a similar setup?
Thank you

Howdy, I didn't do it that way but this thread I created might help you during setup of whatever route you choose:

I just started looking into surge tanks and am trying to wrap my head around it all so I can install myself. So many different ways to go. I notice a lot of guys don't run the controller.
Is there a difference between running the pump inside the surge tank as compared to outside?
Thanks
Actually I see the pump does go in the surge tank. I noticed on the radium Evo X install kit instructions they don't show any hoses running to the engine compartment but the MAP one does.
Thank you. So is that a better way than the way MAP's kit shows (running a new gas line from the surge to the fuel rail?)
BTW I currently have the DW65 fuel pump I believe. It was installed as part of a E85 kit my shop did. I plan on getting the Walboro 450 for the surge.

Be careful with the DW65 in pump as it might over run the system. Most people just go back to the stock pump to feed the surge. The in-tank pump acting as a lifter pump now, feeding the surge, is under way way way less pressure so you don't need a crazy pump.
Also, make sure you do not drill the return line orifice.

Cool, thank you. My Tuner said I will be fine with the DP pump in the tank and the Walboro 450 in the surge and no need for an adjustable fuel pressure gauge with the mods I have at this point.
Thank's for the info. Decided to go with the Radium tank and Radium install kit over the MAP kit. Seems to be the same price plus I get the 450 rather then the 400 and the hoses look nicer. No offense to MAP. I have spent over 10 grand with them so I love them, lol, it's just in this case I feel the better option in go straight through Radium.

I highly recommend a progressive fuel pump controller for the surge tank pump like I state in my thread I linked. I have the wiring charts and all.
Without that, your fuel pressure at idle is going to be super high without a AFPR.
It's pretty cheap in the grand scheme of the system and easy to set up.

You need some way of controlling the pressure as you will be running the 450 at full voltage. Plus it will be loud as hell at idle at full voltage.
The progressive fuel controller runs it at normal low voltage (like the stock setup) and then higher voltage as demand is needed.

Ok I'll ask. But I do trust what he says. He's a great tuner. I'm not opposed to adding it but since he tunes my car I go with what he says. I'm not really concerned with noise, I run a cutout that is open 99% of the time. Lol can't hear much of anything.
