Cams...Should I pull the trigger?

So from what I understand cams will add more hp in the higher rpm's, is this correct? For a daily driven car and a car see's the track 3 times a year, is this a good upgrade to pursue?

Are all cams loud at idle? Right now the car is making 386/356 with a GTX3076 and any guesses what the cams would bump it to?

I feel that the general consenses is that no cams will not add a substantial increase in power, with a stock turbo.. your better bet would be to upgrade the turbo.

Not worth the money on the stock turbo, like hoobastnk said, invest your money in an upgraded turbo if you want more power.

They don't make much more power, but GSC S1's help extend the top of the powerband without giving up spool or off boost torque/power. We did a clutch and cams on my friends X, and it pulls a lot better to redline. So, while the dyno "numbers" aren't much higher (10hp), the car has a much wider useable powerband and is a lot more fun to drive. If you can do the install your self, $700 for cams is a lot less money than a turbo upgrade.

This is very true. The useable power band is widened, but also shifted to the right. Spool is affected, which makes it not worth it to some.

Though if you can do the labor yourself, you're absolutely correct it then becomes a reasonable mod for the price!

Spool was not effected on my friends car, he actually commented that it feels like the car has more power about 300-500rpm sooner. But English Racing does have some magical MIVEC settings...

Interesting, might have to look into some milder cams for my car too sometime soon

It's why we went with S1's. I talked with Aaron about it before ordering them and he recommended the S1's for a street car with a power goal in the 500's. He also made a point that they make 1000whp in the drag X with S2's. Cam selection is definitely different for the X than the 8/9, you don't need to go as big to make the power. The 4b11 is a vastly improved engine over the 4g63, and the dual mivec helps a lot too.
