P0400 and P0402

p0402 and p0400
So on the way home, I started getting like this weird rattling noise. It sorta sounds like the popping noise you get when you decelerate every now and then, but rapidly. My CEL started flashing for the entire ride back home (I do have TephraXmod v3 so may be the knock indicator for the flashing, same with the rattle persisted the whole way back.

When I got home I broke out EvoScan and pulled these two codes:

p0400: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction
P0402: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow (EGR) Excessive Detected

So far from my research found out that the 10 doesn't have an EGR valve and uses MIVEC.

I tried a couple of things suggested in other threads:

1.) Cleaned MAF Sensor
2.) Checked all vac lines
3.) Completely replaced intake filter

Going to try (just waiting for it to arrive):
1.) Changing Sparkplugs.

Patterns I noticed:

If I leave the car for a while it's fine, but after say 10-15m it starts happening. Like it happens only when it starts to warm up, but that may just be coincidence.

Just wondering what I should check. Any help is appreciated.

Does EvoScan also give live data for things like fuel trims and cam advance?

Thats weird, I didn't think those codes existed on the X. Just curious, did you have EvoScan setup for the Evo X option? Also, do you have a code reader just to confirm the codes?

Fuel Trims yes, Cam Advance not sure, I'll check once I get home.

Yes it pops up under the when I select "EVOX EFI" in the Select DTC Method/ECU

Unfortunately I don't have a generic code reader to confirm, I'll try to purchase one this weekend. I would just drive it over to Pepboys or somethign and get a free reading, but it's making the noise after even a short drive and have since just kept it hard parked until I can get this resolved.

The only thing I can think of is that its something tune related or an electrical fault somewhere. Check all of your engine harness connections, or even use contact cleaner on each connector.

Sorry forgot to do a followup. You're absolutely correct it was an electrical issue. When I started the car two days ago, I checked the codes (as I always do since I tend to get a o2 no response detected on cold start, just to make sure there are no new codes) and this time I had those same codes but along with a injector 4, and injector 4 electrical related (forgot the exact code).

So instantly I'm like wtf I checked those already. I grab my multimeter, pop the hood and check the harness. Good. I check the plug and play adapter connection connecting to the injector, and it's snug. I unplug it and check the electrical connection with the multimeter, nothing.

Contacts look clean, so I give a light tug on the wires on the plug and play connector going to the connector head that attaches to the injector, sure enough it's loose...

Took it out soldered it together. Everything is back to normal.
