Loud ticking after driving for a while

Loud ticking after driving for a while
I will drive home about 20 min drive and after almost home the car starts ticking then just gradually gets louder staying at the same rpm then just stops but then does it again 20 seconds later.
I am thinking its something with the tranny its an sst
