Hardware for turbo swap

With my 18k on the way, I'm prepping everything I'll need for the swap. I'm referencing the Garret install guide, but it doesn't mention things like manifold bolts or turbo to manifold studs.

What parts do you guys recommend I replace or reuse? I'm assuming it would be best to pick up some new turbo->manifold bolts. What else?

your likely gonna break some studs on the down pipe.

you can reuse the manifold to head bolts and nuts. those usually dont seize.

I would add a stainless steel lock washer on all the head to manifold bolts.

Plan ahead and spray all exhaust related bolts. And i mean soak them. Not 1 hour before removal but a day of soaking.

If you remove a bolt and feels like its getting hard to turn re tighten it to help clean threads. If you force it out the nut or bolt may break or damage threads.

Good to know. I'll be soaking the bolts down the day before, and I have a torch ready for any PITA bolts. I have a MAP downpipe installed, but I'll definitely be picking up some replacement bolts in case.

A cylinder head to manifold gasket wouldn’t be a bad idea either

The lock washers are MR187848 and you need 2 per bolt as they stack.

Yeah I'm used to a nice challenge on this car. A few of my friends will be helping out. Getting some pizza delivered and having some nice cold ones should help ease the pain!

Weird, I run 600 HP at the time red line time attack with the A/C on with no issues. Melting safety wire that's crazy!

MR187848 washers for Evo8 FP Green?

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, hopefully someone can chime in.

Will these washers MR187848 work on an Evo 8/9? I've only seen them listed for EvoX, but I don't see why they wouldn't work for my Evo8 with an FP green. I have the car apart to replace a turbo to manifold gasket, so perfect time for upgraded washers. Any thoughts?

Double Belleville washers for Evo 8's manifold-to-turbo studs? I'm not certain, but I bet it should work just fine.

Speaking of the OP's Evo X hardware part numbers:

Let's say one prefers Mitsubishi OEM, then the OEM hardware's part numbers are as follows:

▪ Exhaust manifold gasket (x1): 1555A417
▪ Cylinder-head-to-manifold M10 flat washers (x10): MD132933
▪ Cylinder-head-to-manifold M10x1.25x42(?) studs (x10): MD146938
▪ Cylinder-head-to-manifold M10x1.25 flange nuts (x10): MR224500
▪ Manifold-to-turbo gasket (x1): 1515A184
▪ Manifold-to-turbo M10 H.D. super Belleville washers (x8): MR187848
▪ Manifold-to-turbo M10x1.25x34 bolts (x2): MN119783
▪ Manifold-to-turbo M10x1.25x?? studs (x2): MN119784
▪ Manifold-to-turbo M10x1.25 nuts (x2): MD132930
▪ Turbo-to-downpipe gasket (x1): 1555A289
▪ Turbo-to-downpipe M10 flat washers (x5): MD132933
▪ Turbo-to-downpipe M10x1.25x34 bolts (x4): MN119783
▪ Turbo-to-downpipe M10x1.25x?? stud (x1): MR224441
▪ Turbo-to-downpipe M10x1.25 nut (x1): MD132930

Let's say one prefers JDC titanium, then the names of JDC hardware kits are as follows:

▪ Exhaust manifold gasket (x1): 1555A417 (You still have to order OEM for this.)
▪ (Set of 10) M10x1.25x45mm studs, nuts, & washers: "JDC Titanium Exhaust Manifold Stud Kit (Evo X)" (p/n JDC-TI-EVOX-EMSK-6)
▪ Manifold-to-turbo gasket (x1): 1515A184 (Order OEM.)
▪ Manifold-to-turbo M10 H.D. super Belleville washers (x8): MR187848 (Order OEM.)
▪ (If OEM manifold) "JDC Titanium Turbo to Manifold Stud Kit (Evo 4-10/Universal)" /🔩/ (If MAP cast manifold) "JDC Titanium Turbo to Manifold Hardware Kit for MAP Cast Investment Manifolds (Evo X)" (p/n JDC-TI-MAP-CAST)
▪ Turbo-to-downpipe gasket (x1): 1555A289 (Order OEM.)
▪ (Set of 5) M10x1.25x45mm studs, nuts, and washers: "JDC Titanium O2 Housing Stud Kit (Evo 4-X)"

Let's say one prefers ARP stainless, then the ARP hardware's part numbers are as follows:

▪ Exhaust manifold gasket (x1): 1555A417 (Order OEM.)
▪ ARP M10x1.25x48mm broached stud kit 10pcs: 400-8026
▪ Manifold-to-turbo gasket (x1): 1515A184 (Order OEM.)
▪ Manifold-to-turbo M10 H.D. super Belleville washers (x8): MR187848 (Order OEM.)
▪ (If OEM manifold) ARP M10x1.25x48mm broached stud kit 10pcs: 400-8026 (4 here, 5 for turbo-to-downpipe) /🔩/ (If MAP cast manifold) ARP M10x1.25x48mm broached stud kit 8pcs: 400-8016 (3 here, 5 for turbo-to-downpipe)
▪ 🔩/ (If MAP cast manifold) Simply use the zinc-coated M10x1.25x80 long bolt that comes with the MAP cast manifold, or you can use JDC-TI-MAP-CAST or ARP 773-1010.
▪ Turbo-to-downpipe gasket (x1): 1555A289 (Order OEM.)

One way or another, using flat washers for cylinder-head-to-manifold and turbo-to-downpipe is fine. There are plenty of bolts and studs sealing these connections against heat expansion. But you must use double OEM Belleville washers for each of the 4 manifold-to-turbo holes. The 4 bolts/studs here have only so much strength. Without the double Belleville washers, they will stretch from heat expansion and cause an exhaust leak. Like AMS eloquently put:

This should hold up just fine. [...]

Bolt part number: MN119783
Washer part number: MR187848 (two needed per bolt)

The correct way of installing double Belleville washers is mentioned in Evo X Service Manual 11B-22 and 15-21.
