Build EVO X or EVO 9/8

I have a choice here whether to buy a evo x and build that to 800whp or do the same with the EVO 9/8... Evo x comes in at around 12K-18k to buy one used thats running and an evo 8/9 is around 20-30k... My biggest gripe with the EVO X is the weight and from what I have seen the 4B is perfectly fine for what im after.. Still not sure which one to go for.

Both are worthy projects. Get the CT9A chassis w/the 4G63T.

If you want an EvO, get the one w/some history behind it

Worth the extra penny in your opinion?

Depends on your interest. If youre looking for more of the orig design thats a bit more on the raw side, go w/the 8/9

The 10 is no doubt a bit more refined & of course these newer car designs have increased in weight. The 4B11 is no slouch & has a few more refined tricks than the 4G63 (alum block, variable intake & exhaust valves etc)

You will have fun w/either. I just happen to be a 9 RS guy & thats where im positioned

Cheers, Joe

Raw or refined? You really can't go wrong with either but I'll always choose a CT9A over the CZ4A. The extra money is worth it.

Thanks, I have a question about if I can hit 400whp on a stock turbo without cams. Is that possible on pump 94 FBO?

Dont think so unless it was a MIVEC 9 on E85. No way on a Mustang & unlikely on a Dynojet. The pump 94 certainly helps but dont think it will get ya there.

I hit 400 on E85 (Dynojet) (stock turbo, cams & FBO)

the x will make power more easily. doesn't mean it'd be faster though. i'd try to have performance goal rather than horsepower dyno number goals (ie i assume this is for quarter mile racing)

why would it be faster? Is it because it’s lighter than the x?

i'm not saying it would be faster. i'm simply saying i'd put performance goals ahead of dyno numbers.. which would highly depend on which dyno you're on. either of these chassis will be fast if you sink enough money into them. or you could just get a demon if you want 800 hp.. will probably be more reliable than an evo 8/9/10 with 800hp

I could do that but I have always loved evos and thats why I want 800whp on an evo. Im just trying to think if the 8/9 is worth the extra money over the x. I take it its not and I will be fine with the X. And the X makes power easier according to you so 800whp is slightly less of a dream.

It depends on who you talk to whether it's worth it or not. To me the CT9A is most definitely worth it. Just because a X makes power "easier" than an 8 or 9 doesn't mean it's gonna make it to 800whp easier. Either car will need a built engine, big turbo, supporting mods, etc. If anything, the CT9A has the advantage there cost wise and option wise since you can pick up used 4G64 blocks for dirt cheap and build added displacement, higher revving engines all day.

Honestly, if you're looking to build either to the same level you should just buy the one that looks better to you.

And that is what it has come down to... I am most likely going to just buy the cheaper chassis and build that but I will try and get an 8/9 since I love the looks.

Cheapest way to 400whp?

What is the cheapest way to 400whp that wont blow up. I am not looking for ghetto builds that are gonna blow after 1 dyno run although I do want it to be cost conservative. Can I do this on a stock turbo for an 8 or do I need a 9 turbo or do I need a bigger turbo in general? I want this to be on pump 94 octane. Please be very specific with the mods thank you.
