Stock EvoX Clutch replacement suggestions in Dallas
Stock EvoX Clutch replacement suggestions in Dallas
My EVO X FE DD stock clutch is about to give up, it has has 35k mostly driven on highways, have driven from NJ to Houston this week and it was fine, yesterday till i gave it to Valet in houston for overnight parking and noticed clutch slipping on the highway on my way to Dallas today morning, need help on getting the clutch job done in Dallas, should i go for a stock clutch at a Dallas Mitsubishi dealer, any suggestions which dealer is good in Dallas or alternatively should i source an ACT or Exedy and get it done at outside, any suggestions of a shop expereinced in EVOs where i can get it done in Dallas, i do some spirited driving and mostly use it for DD, TIA, Appreciate the support!!
I have no idea about where to go, hopefully someone else chimes in there.
As for what clutch, I think you need to ask what your plans are for the car. If you plan to keep it stock, a stock one would be fine. If you plan on getting a tune eventually, a smaller upgrade is probably worth it like the exdey or act single disc options. If you are planning to build it and make a ton of power in the next year or 2, something bigger might be the best move. Only you can answer this for your application.
In my opinion, I'd probably go with something upgraded but without the high pedal force of an ACT HDSS. I don't know what exactly the exedy options are but I'd probably start there? If its mostly a daily and involves traffic, I'd try to keep the pedal force down while getting a slight upgrade.

Well I have never had or driven a X so all of my experience is from a 9.
I had an ACT HDSS and the pedal force was noticeably higher than the stock clutch it replaced but it was a very drivable clutch. Wouldn't be ideal for traffic though.
Now I have an Exedy twin and the pedal is a lot softer than the HDSS but thats SUPER overkill for your setup.
I'd look around on here for clutch reviews on X's but I know for the 8/9, the Exedy single organic I think it is seems to be the go to for stock pedal feel with improved holding power.
Something like this https://www.extremepsi.com/store/Exe...EVO-X-GSR.html
That one seems to have a slightly heavier pedal but is a slight improvement.
Otherwise, just go back to a stock-ish one like the one below. That is supposed to be a stock replacement so it should be basically what you had.

Again, do some research on here and see what actual users have to say. I have 0 experience with these so I just did a quick google to grab some links. There are a bunch of brands and setups so do some research and pick what makes sense for you.
Also, if you find a decent Evo shop down there, they will likely have recommendations based on what they have installed and used. Another solid way to figure out what to go with.
Exedy makes a "Stage 1" OEM style replacement with 2 pressure plate offerings. I have the 396 lb ft rated version on my mildly modified X and it's very close to stock but with notably more holding capacity.
