High RPM Lockout + Grind Help

Hello,

3 months ago i had my stock clutch replaced due to slipping issues. I put in a CC Stage 4 (6-puck) clutch and resurfaced the stock flywheel. I babied it in till the clutch was broken in properly 500+miles. Now im having an issue where i am getting locked out of every gear, high rpm only. Im not just hitting a invisible wall, the gears grind as if i dont have the clutch pedal pressed it in between shifts.

I tried adjusting the clutch pedal to shorter, no difference. Tried putting it back out to stock, no difference. I took it to a local shop and they were telling me that its the clutch, and that these types of clutches are no good for evos especially 6-speed trannys like mine. I was told that the clutch needs to be replaced with a twin-disk in order to solve this problem... mind you this clutch is 3 months old, with 0 launches and 0 aggresive driving.

Just looking for some input on what i should do or a cause of the problems im having as i cant fully believe a 3 month old clutch is already shot-to-****.

Thanks!

I would take it to another shop with the current low miles you already have. A shop who has serviced countless of evos. What TOB did you use?

The shop that installed the clutch reused the stock TOB that was in the car already

The clutch is dragging. When you press the clutch pedal the clutch disc vibrates and drags against the PP and FW making it seem as if the clutch isn't fully disengaged. This kind of issue is more prone to ACT clutches and engines with balance shafts eliminated.
Options-
cantact CC see if they will trade out the clutch disc, maybe a stg2
Twin disc clutch- have smaller diameter so the don't drag like full size clutches.

At a stop while in 1st gear and clutch to the floor, hold the 2step or just rev it to 5-5500 rpm, if the car tries lurching forward a bit it's definatly clutch drag.

Check your slave cylinder. I ran a comp stage four without any issue but the pressure plate is about as heavy as you can run on stock hydraulics so if yours is worn and/or weak it might not be pulling the plates far enough apart.

Another question is, did you get the clutch assembly balanced? Because contrary to popular belief they are not balanced perfectly from the factory. If the flywheel is way off or the assembly as a whole is it can cause more drag and wear on your bearings as time goes on. I've always had my clutch assemblies balanced, never had an issue with drag that wasn't hydraulic based.

I will test if it has clutch drag and see what happens

I will have a look at the slave as well, wont hurt. As for the balancing of the clutch assembly no i dont not belive i had it balanced.

Tested to see if the clutch was dragging... hit the 2-step at 5-5.5k and no thrust forward.

I will try adjusting the pedal the same way as he does in that vid posted above, hopefully that will do the trick.

It's not a thrust but a slow lurch. If the car rolls forward at all on flat ground while on the 2step it's dragging.

Op you have to disable 2step and hit the real rev limiter to check the clutch drag.good luck brother.

I've just had an Exedy Stage 1 HD installed and have had similar issues with lock out above 6500 RPM on my 6spd. I'll have to try what they have done in the video, cause I really dont want to take the whole thing apart again!
