EVO X on the track
DSG is probably the BEST semi auto out there, it has the next gear selected on the second clutch while your in whatever gear you are, so if you are changing into the gear that it assumes you want, you have a quicker shift than a professional racing driver could do, with less momentum loss.

so that is why i hope the evo will show some progress over the vw grouppe trany.
with sequential tranny. It was in 94 and the car was made 93. Back then we called it semi automatic since we dont used clutch. only from off the line.

A sequential tranny is a whole 'nother ball of wax. Sequentials rock (think motorcycle tranny), but are very expensive. No, a sequential is in no way a semiautomatic, it is a full manual gearbox that you can shift without the clutch, but it is much harder on the tranny to do so. The syncro's will wear out much quicker if you don't use the clutch, which in racing is fine.
a lot of you guys are forgetting about the CAR the tranny is in also. on the EVO X it'll have S-AWC. that changes the game. TOTALLY. ok maybe on a "regular" car the DSG will perform good enough to offset it's added weight. that's why the audi dsg beat the manual by "only" 0.4 sec. but think about this for a sec. with S-AWC, you're going to be going FLAT OUT. no lifting off the go pedal here. you just let the S-AWC find the traction and let the SST modulate the clutch/gear changes to channel that power to the ground. what you get is LESS need to correct steering, LESS need to lift off to shift, LESS need to modulate the gas to keep traction, etc. you just drive the damn thing and the computers make you go fast. FUN? maybe not to some. FAST? you bet!
if manual was truly better then the highest forms of racing would use it to have an advantage. but the highest forms of racing also use ADVANCED traction control that in conjunction with the a clutchless manual is an overall better package, period.
fun =/= fast and vice versa

I'm pretty sure it was proven already the SST is faster in corners on a track. But if your dragging, the fastest possible evo you could have is a the 5spd IX. SST would require a mod to the transmission that usually autotrannys get (I can't think of the name of it now) and I don't even know if thats possible for a SST, other than a launch controller..
Sequential transmissions is a manual transmission where you don't use the clutch.

actually, if i got it right in english we called it exactly like this: slapping transmission
.

That track is the layout for TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY. I used to race there with the CMRA both in endurance races as well as sprint races. It is in College Station, TX off of HWY 6 right up the road from Texas A&M. It's a pretty nice fast track... I wish they had the money to resurface the damn thing though. I thought that was an interesting choice. Liter bikes can hit 185 mph down the straight that skirts the pit lane.

Does the new Evo X have Rev match down shift like the Ferrari, Lexus IS-F and such? Because Rev match is like Toe and Heel in the manual which aid in engine brake and not cause the tranny to lock up during down shift. That would help dramatically around the track.
i wonder how much it'll cost to get a new SST trans put in if it ever goes, say around 60k of hard driving? ;-) mistu dealer probably the only one who can do that work... so i'm guessing it will be EXPENSIVE
i know it works different, but yes you are right, its not a semi automatic tranny. The semi auto tranny is when you shift without using clutch, pluss you don't need the clucth to start rolling.

.Haha indeed, slappy paddles FTW!
If sequential transmissions could be made to handle more power/abuse they would be insane in road cars.... But they dont.
