pricing of evo x in canada vs GTR pricing in USA

a salesman i know pretty well told me that he is quite certain the highest trim EVO MR in toronto (and probably rest of canada) will be about 55,000 MSRP. add freight (about 2000, i paid around 2000 give or take one or two hundred for my 08 lancer GTS), 14% tax , it does not come out cheap at all. now there is a lot of talk about the nissan GTR being about 70,000 USD for the basic model. added with the parity between USD and CAD, i am quite certain that a few extra thousand one can land a GTR from the states instead of an EVO X in toronto. i understand that one would still have to pay tax for this GTR should it be allowed to be imported from the states BUT THE QUESTION IS --> is it reasonable to spend this much on the evoX given spending a bit more can get you a nissan supercar?

hmm this just popped into my head. well i guess; discuss?

i would say it is reasonable but there r many factors to it, like canadian vehicle inspection, depends if the car can pass and also ull prob b taxed when bringing it over the border, if it passes inspection, also warrenty, it might void ur warrenty. i mean for parts its not 2 bad cause i think the gtr is actually releasing in canada, so it wouldnt b 2 bad

Your dealer friend might be basing his price assumptions on the cost of an STi in Canada, which if I remember correctly was around $55g's a few years ago. I doubt MMSA-CA will price themselves out of the market like that.

You do know that only 10% of the the US nissan dealership will be able to service the GTR. And in Canada, even less dealership can service this car. If you are serious on buying yourself a GTR, look at your nearest dealerships to see if they have plans to buy the equipments necessary to service the GTR.

Also you forgot about the mark up of the GTR, which will probably be around 10k-20k.

If i were you, I would import something other than the GTR because of the trouble and markups.

Z06? Porsche?

Btw, Evo X is rumored to have a base price of 42k cdn and fully loaded (with navi) will be around 48k cdn.

Cheerios.

Just wondering.....couldnt you just buy it in the US, keep it registered in the US and drive it back to Canada? donno how the system works but i know of a couple of people that bought their cars in Vancouver and drove it to Washington state a few years back. (Car was a Mustang cobra tho.)

even at 42k and 48k, that's way too much...

42k cdn = 45k us and 48k cdn= 51 400 us

I'm sure that the MR will be like 42k us which is like 40k cdn right now

where do you think most canadians will go buy their EVO X ???

mitsu canada has to think about this...they want to grow in canada but they finance at like 5,8% and lease at the same rate (not really attractive for customers) + they don't have lower prices than the competition...only 1% of canadian customers consider Mitsubishi as a potential option...

I know that the EVO is in another class, but they should but it so low compared to the subies that everybody would buy an EVO instead of a subaru...
here a WRX is like 34K so imagine with a base price like 37-38k(which would be ok compared to the US price I guess), 90% would go for the EVO

It's in their hands though

I hope I'll be abble to afford it someday

You're assuming that you will be able to import evos from the US into Canada, which could quite possibly not happen; and even if it does you're still going to need to do some body work to bring it to Canada. In the end Canadians are getting screwed and will continue to get screwed and there is no way around it. In my opinion look for the evo being a 50k car in Canada and that is a low estimate.

If you look at the RIV the 08 Evo is not admissable in canada... so even though it can be sold in Canada, you can't import it.

Sorry Cow town... I'm actually thinking of moving from the states back home to Calgary.. or Vancouver, and I'm really kind of screwed with my car situation.

correct. for those that say im speculating... the salesman actually showed me this binder with all the specs etc of the EVO X, (he wasnt supposed to) and it did say price will range from 45000 - 55000 inside as well. the base is 45000 atleast, so the MR will be atleast 50000. so the point of this is... f**k canada.

ya was told about 50,000 for the evo. My bro bought his STI for 59,000. Even thought the canadian dollar is at a all time high it will do a little effect on the price of the evo. mitsubishi sets the price of the evo not nessary the global market.
i dont see a point in buying a car in the states and then getting it trasfered here because it is going to cost lots of money and time to do so unless you were planing a trip to usa.
I was also told the new GTR will be more than $70k more like +$100k and they will be very limited in Canada. But it will be worth the $100k

That goes for a lot of the other companies, not just Mitsu.

Edit: F**k Canada is right, take your 50 f**ken grand and get a 335i down in the states, unless you are REALLY that set on buying an Evo X, in which case, take it up the bum like the rest of the Canadian.
