Does anyone know if the SST will slip the clutch when accelrating from a stop quickly? On manual, you simply hold the rpm around 4k and slip quickly. How would this be acomplished on the SST?

No, on manual you let it bang off the 2 step at 5500 rpm, not 4000. As far as information on launching an SST is concerned, as of about a month ago, there wasnt a launching system for the SST. I don't know if they have anything yet or not.

Bottom line: Be a man, stay manual .

Apart from launching and reliability. I read in an article that the evo x sst blips the throttle when downshifting. Basically that eliminated the need for heal and toe in spirited driving. Now Im leaning towards it...

My manhood is not in question. .

I do like a manual, but also enjoy auto's....never had an automated manual. I did read that it slips the clucthes while at a light and you let off the brake, this simulates an automatic's creep forward.

I am more interested in spirited red light launches versus all-out bouncing of the rev-limit clutch dumps. I don't race daily. I will take it to the track maybe once a blue moon, but mainly, it will be my daily driven vehicle.

Why would you want the car to do that for you? Being able to successfully do a heal/toe downshift is fun! Wouldn't a computer simulating that sort of take that fun away? Fu*k that.

1. Auto's bore the crap out of me, whats enjoyable about that?
2. Either its auto or its not. I don't believe in such things at auto-manuals.
3. Who says you have to do a redline clutch dump? You can still do little launches by feeding in a little bit of clutch.

That's exactly what I want to know...can the SST do that? As far as why I enjoy an Auto...simple..sometimes one enjoys not having to push the clutch in. Especially those larger cities where you are in traffic jams daily.

Well, there is a difference between enjoying an auto and enjoying one single benefit (the only benefit) in an auto. Autos are gay and should not be in a sports car in any form - unless its an F1 car or Top Fuel Dragster. If you are a true enthusiast, you deal with the "inconveniences" and revel in the fact that you are in complete control of the vehicle at all times.

I am not going to turn this into a pissing contest with you. Everyone is entitled to their opinon, looking at the poll results, I am not the only one "thinking" of the SST.

Well, hopefully you'll keep it just a "thought." Autos don't belong in sports cars. The one credit I can give to Subaru is that they didn't give into this ever-increasing homosexual trend of semi-autos in their STI. Sure, its a brown-bagger, but at least you know that when you see one going down the road, the person behind the wheel is a real driver - not a poser .

No you are definitely not, we are just not as vocal as some of the young members here. I'm for the SST and can't wait for the MR to be released. Cheers

The car is "slow" anyway, you might as well drive it in comfort. SST for me.

I perfectly understand what you mean and agree with you.. although, if I ever get me an evo X, it will definitely be my daily driver. and since i drive spiritedly 80% of the time, heal and toeing becomes tiring and makes me sweat. Not good for your work outfit.

I think I am just getting old.. Cheers!

My choice is 100% manual even if SST will be twice, 3 or 4 times as fast in shifting than me. I just like the personal challenge and possibility of screwing up under pressure. By not having clutch control, it just takes away the control and fun in my opinion. Now even less experienced people can just hop right in and take the car to the max - which I don't think is a good thing. Sticking with a clutch is totally a personal preference....and yes... I too am getting older... nearing my mid-life crisis

I was never a fan of the traction control for the same reasons....great for my wife, but personally, I want the challenge of controlling the power with my food to get it just right. The satisfaction is so great when you get it right that it outweighs the 90% of the time you get it wrong. The AYC brakes for you doesn't it (ie traction control) to make the car faster - right? I hope they have a button to turn that off, even if it makes the car slower.

The EVO XV will probably brake and steer for you too - do you want that too? It will be faster! At that point, I'll probably just stay home and drive in some Xbox game... because the challenge of driving for fun will probably be all gone by then....

(yes, my glass of water is 1/2 empty)

yeah....cars controlled by satellite...the next big thing?....lol

an automatic evo?....gonna be just like another mustang out on the road

i mean the paddle shifter thing is stupid....if i got the sst i'd just leave it in auto all the time...i mean really what's the point of paddle shifting?
u can change the auto shifting modes from normal, sport, or s sport or whatever...i guess each one shifts at higher rpms?....maybe if u were drag racing or something u would use the paddle shifters but the evo isn't really the car to use for drag racing....and on a track....kinda takes the being a good driver out of the equation doesn't it?....they shouldn't allow auto or auto-manual trannys in racing...basically that's cheating...lol....maybe just in f1 and drag racing like the guy said...but the evo doesn't fit into either of those categories....although people continue to try to put it in them

how bout this...mitsu should make an auto mr and a manual mr....problem solved...one for busy city people that can't shift gears and the other for drivers

at least the gsr is available with the 5 speed
