SST VS Manual - which one do you want?
Hey guys,
I'm a long time DSM guy, I still own a GVR4 and recently sold my Eclipse GSX that ran 11.9@117.
I am currently looking for a new car, Love the look of the new EVO, and am intrigued with the SST. After selling my GSX I bought a Lexus IS350 and loved the performance of the car (13.2@104.9((stock)) but hated the restrictions Lexus enforces, so I sold it after a year. The IS350 really shifted quickly. I really thought it shifted well. Never did it do anything "weird" to me.
So here I am looking at the EVO and even though the 20yr old in me wants the 5 speed, the 33 yr old that is me, knows that the SST will be a better daily driver for those traffic jams and normal errand runs.
So who here is going to put there trust in a new Mitsu tranny?
I can tell you from countless years of DSM experience, the manual trannies always have shifting/disengagment issues at higher rpms.

If you can't wait until Feb (that's the earliest date I've heard for the MR to arrive) to test-drive the SST, go visit your local Audi dealer and take a DSG-equipped car for a drive. The DSG and SST are pretty much the same tranny. You'll get an idea if you like it or not.
As for putting "trust" in a new Mitsu tranny, there have been articles posted about Mitsu already having issues with SST which could potentially delay the release in the US. I'm too lazy and hung over right now to post links to them. You'll find them if you search. Mitsu, unlike Audi, doesn't have years of experience with a dual-clutch tranny. Audi had years of racing experience before bringing the tranny to their regular cars. With Mitsu not having past experience with this tranny, I wouldn't want to be a first-year guinea pig. I'd wait until year two, let them get all the kinks worked out. But that's just me.

A better vehicle to test drive to get a feel for DSG is the 2.0T GTI. Shifts are impressively fast and the different modes allow for shifts to be held until they are needed, both upshifts and downshifts. For me, I still felt very disconnected from the car and prefer the 5 spd MT.

i would choose the SST. First off you won't need to swap clutches like you would on a manual because they engage much smoother and will get less wear thanks to the computer controlling it. It is quicker in shifting making it an overall faster car, the only down side is... we don't know how much power it will hold and upgrades for the clutch packs won't come cheap
