Yeah I wouldn't put it past them, but it would be a really tough case for THEM to prove abuse considering you can't do anything to the transmission the ECU thinks is unsafe. Also, considering the car comes with a "Super Sport" shift map, and is marketed as a rally car for the road, you would be hard-pressed to say you weren't using it for its intended purpose, even during a track day or auto-X.

There are some cases when you have to shift mid-turn. For instance, my local track's back "straight" is really just a really long open sweeper. Also, if you do a lot of trail braking, you are occasionally going too fast when you begin the turn to be in the gear you want to be in when you come out (especially if it tightens). Not shifting during a turn is really just a rule of thumb, because it's kinda difficult for most people to do it without upsetting the balance of the car.

I was disappointed when I found out the paddles were not attached to the steering wheel (like an F1 car) until I really thought about it. I've since decided it makes more sense for a street car to have stationary paddles. F1 drivers NEVER do hand-over-hand turns (even in Monaco) because the steering ratio is ultra-quick, they don't ever negotiate parking lots, and consequently their hands never have to leave the steering wheel to turn. Street cars, on the other hand, need much more steering input to make turns, and have to maneuver around parking lots, etc. As such, people either need to do hand-over-hand or shuffle-steering, placing the paddles not only away from the hand that shifts it, but at an unknown position at that! Mid-turn, you it is quite likely you would have both of your hands at the 10 and 2 positions, the left paddle on the right-hand side of the wheel, and vice-versa! This would, of course, be less than ideal. You could make the argument that you could always reach over and use the gearshift lever in that case, but if someone only wants to use the paddle shifters every time, they should be able to easily.

So...the way it is currently set up, the majority of the time you will be shifting while going straight, so the attachment point isn't very important. During a turn, considering the myriad of hand positions and steering wheel positions possible, at least the paddles will be in a known place, not very far away like the gear shifter, and you'll never have to switch hands on the shifters and/or shift up when you meant to shift down.

Aside from the different shift maps, the previous generation Evos were marketed the exact same way. That's never stopped regional representatives from ****ing people in the ***.

Yeah but let's face it, most (not all) driveline parts have been broken from drag racing, which was never intended. My friend broke his front diff within a week of buying his car, because he shifts like a crazed lunatic racing for $100,000 pulling away from every stop light. On the other hand, I have over 108K miles on my stock driveline and it still works great, even after many track days, auto-x, one rally-x, lots of spirited driving around winding roads, and yes even some drag racing, albeit never getting the times I would have gotten had I chosen to make ham-fisted ape-style gearshifts for that extra couple of tenths.

That's mostly true with the drag racing aspect. There's also the dreaded 4th gear in the MR. Seems to blow out regularly on guys who regularly track their MR. Mitsu doesn't cover that under warranty even though there isn't any abuse put on the transmission like in drag racing. It's purely a heat issue. Oh well, Mitsu will always be horrible with warranties, dealership service and the way they treat customers. Can't wait to see the look on the face of a guy who's considering a BMW when he walks into a Mitsu showroom

I really want to give you the benifit of the doubt "DJ Brett B" and believe that you are wickedly sarcastic, but there is still a nagging bit of doubt...

Back to the original topic and back up on my soap box... This is the type of crap you get (MILFy approved article) when the appeal of the car is "broadened" to a greater audience.

I thought the article was hilarious! I actually imagine that is something my mother would write. She has always wanted me to bring her out to do a track day.
