I'd still have to go with the X. In my personal opinion, it looks a lot better, it may not have as good as stats this year and the STi will probably win in Evo X vs New STi, but will the 4B11T respond to mods as well as the 4G63? or will it respond better the Subaru boxter? We don't know yet. We'll see over time.

I test drove an '08 STi the other day - it was a bore. I felt like I was driving a normal car. Unnecessarily light clutch, crappy shifter (decently short, but it didn't have that solid, rifle bolt feel), light steering, too quiet, etc. No character. Maybe the car is more fun when really pushed through corners (which I didn't do), but I want a car to be fun/involving at all times.

The STi's power and power curve sucked, IMO. It did not feel like 305hp and 290ft.lbs in a 3350 pound car. Nor did it feel like a powerful turbo motor, it felt like a NA motor of maybe 240-250 hp. It could be the one I drove was a dud, who knows.

The EVO IX I test drove a couple of years ago was a blast.. sharp steering/handling, solid short shifter, audible turbo and QUICK.. it came up on boost and shot forward. The car had character and it was FUN! The ride was a little harsh for a daily driver, but more street oriented tires would have helped that a little.

I do think the STi looks good, though. It's sharp in silver. The interior was pretty nice, too, I like the Alcantara trim. The Interior's overall quality was 'good' but not comparable to the R32's, which is excellent.

IMO, the '08 STi felt NOTHING like the EVO IX. The experience just wasn't there. They refined the life out of it. I was prepared to buy the car, but walked away. It's a shame because - in theory - it's a nice do-everything daily sports car.. speed (?? didn't feel like it), looks, AWD, cargo room, etc. ...add "life" and "character" to that list and it would be a winner.

I look forward to driving the EVO X.

If you don't like either of these two cars then you should expand your choices. The worst thing you can do is spend 35k on a car you don't enjoy and never really liked in the first place. Go decide on what you want in a car first.

Just visited my local Mitsubishi Dealership and they had two Evo X in showroom floor both were GSR and in my opinion they did nothing to excite me at all they look like a loaded GTS Lancer on steroids. Now I have not seen the new Sti in person but the new Evo was not to my liking ugly and no character looks like any other car out on the road.

I think the new sti's look pretty good, a lot better then what I saw in pictures. Still waiting to see a evo x in person. Although I like what I see from the pictures.

I know one thing, both the 08 stis and evo x's are expensive as sh*t. Both are pushing like 40k right now because they are new and dealers are asking msrp or close.

If it was me looking for a new sti or evo, I would wait it out a bit and let prices drop some.

Seeing lots of chatter about new Evo's and STi's pricing themselves close to 40k. Thats a sweet spot for cars if you're not set on picking up a car with AWD as you're in the pricerange for quite a few sweet cars.

I really didn't care for the 08 STi or SOA for that matter and didn't want another Evo, so in that same pricerange I picked up a new vette.
