^Seems like it. Maybe I'll buy the X, drive and enjoy it for a year, then trade it in for an XI?

Since by then, maybe I can have a Sunroof and a non-oil thirsty car.

I'm scared of Mitsu's warranty process. Most likely I'll be waiting for an '09 model and just hope they work out all the kinks or find out if Mitsu will stand by their product and cover problems.

unless you autox/roadrace/drag race every weekend... there's really no need to be freaking out at changing oil every 3-5k miles.

Synthetic oils these days are advanced enough to sustain the recommended service interval under average driving conditions.

The problem is when a manufacturer insists on reducing the service intervals, it usually means that some components of the engine don't have the tolerance to sustain even an advanced lubricant.

Were not even discussing extreme use of the car... so that means if I go drag race/autox/road race.. that would mean I would have to change the oil every 500 miles since its equivalent to 10x the normal abuse or average driving conditions...

Not trying to start an argument, but just curious why you think the Mobil1 Extended Performance oil is crap. It has performed extremely well in the tests that I've read.

I think this whole idea of them recommending 3K mile intervals is just to make more money on service. If the owner's manual says 5K intervals, than that's what the warranty will be based off.

Much like Pennzoil did years back with the 10-minute oil change shops. They chose 3K mile intervals versus 5K intervals because they could make some crazy amount of money (can't remember the figure and too lazy to google it). So, it was just a marketing ploy to make more money.

I see this as the same thing.

Some of the strongly worded language in that memo is troublesome. Seems like Mitsu is going to be even tougher on warranties than they have been in the past.

wow you guy like jumping to conclusion! You guys are cheap! 10000 mile you got to be kidding me. wow your stingy with your money. Like honestly, you just bought a brand new car, put some TLC into it. It cost like $60 for an oil change. For me i have always change the oil every 5000 km which is about 3100 miles. In every car that i owned, parents own, and even work trucks. i have always change the oil 5000km. I work at a semi truck shop and all light duty truck oil change was done 5000km and semi done 300 - 500 hours

^ like he said. they probly changed it so the shops can make more money.

I have always believed in checking oil EVERY time I fill up on every vehicle I have ever owned, new or used. It is a good habit, no big surprises if something is going on like an oil leak or sudden consumption. If you check it every time you don't need to wonder when was the last time I checked it? Should I check it this time ? etc. Make it part of the ritual every time. If in a big hurry once in a while you just skip it.
