EVO X Maintenance & Servicing Requirments
I don't see how changing the oil every 3k is a 'good' thing when you look at it from product perspective.
The EVO X was positioned as a mainstream performance sedan. If you compare something similar, like a 3 series or even M3. I believe that their service intervals go as high as 10k miles between oil change/service interval.
Something like 3k miles shows lack of durability in the engine/powertrain.

I have a E46 M3 which holds 7.5 liters of oil and I use the Castrol TWS Motorsport 10W60 Synthetic.
The recommended oil change interval for that car is 15K OR 1 year (whichever comes first).
Here in Hawaii, my M3 is my weekend/autocross car and it only sees about 2-3k miles a year and gets it's oil changed once a year.
From what the maintenance schedule thing said, the Evo X should get an oil change ever 5K miles (now 3k according to this thread) or 5 months.
Also, the 4B11 holds only 5 liters of oil and runs Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic.
But... since oil technology has come a long way... especially with synthetic oil... I do wonder why Mitsubishi is requiring a 3k service interval.
You also got to remember... not all engines hold the same amount of oil nor the same type.

While I planned to change it more frequently than factory recommendation anyway, it's poor form for Mitsubishi set the gauge cluster to read every 5000 miles only to change this recommendation within a month and a half of release.
I wouldn't wait till 15K miles either.
While it may be OK to do an oil change nowadays way over the traditionally considered 3k mile mark with cars like these...
It's just a form of peace of mind doing an oil change earlier than the manufacturer recommendation.
I also agree with MrBonus... But, I guess it's better late than never.
Not to mention... Doesn't the Evo X have a OBD2 port?
Couldn't Mitsu just send out an update to the dealers and have the dealer reflash it?
well if you drive a car a lot, say 3k a month, that means you'll spend anywhere b/w 600-960USD just for oil changes every year, screw that.
the only thing that you need to do is check it every time you fill up, especially if you drive it hard, turbocharged cars have tendency to burn some oil anyhow, so just keep a quart in your trunk, if you track car frequently, i would change it every 3K
otherwise, I wouldnt change oil but every 5K,
this is just another way for mitsubishi to give you crap and have a way out of doing warranty work, isnt it enought that they already slashed the powertrain warranty on the evo to 5y/60k?
last thought, the oil industry has brain-washed us into thinking that this is necessary,..its not. just like a few people brought this up, some manufacturers like bmw, vw, honda recommend oil changes every 10K. are they in the dark?

Deleted all content since moderator closed my mobil 1 thread. Sorry guys. Just enjoy what is available on the forum. I do and will use extreme caition from now on and not share any important info regarding our cars and its sensitive warranty restrictions.

Out of curiosity.. Couldn't you fight them in the fact they want you to use genuine Mitsubishi parts for servicing under warranty as being a forced monopoly? I mean, if you can't use any part you'd like, you're being forced to use their part, and IIRC, that's the definition of a monopoly right there!
Anyone?
(by the way, my 08 TT is the same now - 3k oil changes on fully synthetic due to consumption issues.. namely eating 1.5L every gas fill. Yes, 1.5L a fillup for the VAG 2.0T cars!)
Found this also:
Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty.[2] This is commonly referred to as the "tie-in sales" provisions[3], and is frequently mentioned in the context of third-party computer parts, such as memory and hard drives.
So I guess they can't void you just because you had someone else do it! But, keep your receipts!

Talk about resurrecting a thread from the dead! ...but this is interesting. South Coast Mitsu didn't specifically mention anything about 3K miles. I figured 5K was a reasonable number for this car.
I am still doing it every 3K miles anyway. It's not like its that expensive to do. I did that for all the cars I've owned prior and they all seem to last with minimal issues.
Also, since this has been brought up again... how has everyone's Evo X been? Is everyone doing the 3K, 5K, or 10K thing?
