Am I Alone
ill agree with you that from the side mirrors forward, its an evo
from the side mirrors back, its a mazda or lexus. ive made the joke many times since ive had it, walking up to a mazda 6 or mazda 3 in a parking lot and saying, "oh wait, thats not my evo"
but at the same time, im happy its not as "ricer", and mind you i just use that term loosely only to get a good mental image.
when im driving the streets in california, i dont have to worry about getting pulled over for no other reason then for the officer to inform me that he pulled me over for not having a front plate (because hes profiling me) when in fact, if he ever saw the front of my car (which is impossible since he was behind me the entire time), hed have seen it.
also, i dont have to worry about honda and acuras trying to race me every 5 seconds cause they just think its a lancer.
i get the evo without the hassle. and thats pretty priceless.

I haven't seen the evo x in person, but from the pics and video I have seen I actually kind of think it does have that evo look to it. At first I didn't, but now more and more it looks to me like a logical step forward in design. It was bound to smooth out a bit and get more cushy. I think that if the X does well then more trims could be offered in the future for all levels of fans. Like stangs, vettes and such. I personally love my 8 and wouldn't give it up for the X, but I would buy a X as a second car
I like the X. Let's be honest, there wasn't a whole lot of "evolution" between VII and IX. It needed a kick in the ***, some parts of the car were stone-age. The X is not without faults of its own, but it's light years ahead of the IX. I suppose that makes it uncomfortable for some.

yup right on the money. Poeple that havnt driven the X are talking like they got the right to. when infact most havent even seen it at the dealership? how the hell can you jugde a car that way? go drive one for more then a 10min test drive then talk. if you cant get over the fact that your car isnt the latest? or newest or whatever it is that is bugging you then go back to your respected forum? =]
no iffence
It would be foolish for Mitsu to change the name. The "Lancer Evolution" name means a lot to Mitsubishi. You could consider it a big brand polisher.
Having a well known/respected name is something to hold onto. Look at the new Ford Taurus. It wasn't selling as the 500, but change the name and voila.
Having an Evo in the lineup won't only help sell regular lancers, it affects all Mitsu products on some level.

they seem to make a major platform change every 3 iterations. the evo I-III look nothing like the IV-VI, the IV-VI look nothing like the VII-IX, and the VII-IX look nothing like the X-?. they said the same thing you are saying when the VII came out, and if ever there is an evo XIII i'm sure they will say the same thing again...about how it isn't a true evo because it's not as raw as the XII lol.
AND about the X not having an "evo look" to it...well the evo look is and has always been the small econo-box full of go-fast goodies...so yeah, of course the x has the evo look...evo is just a colloquialism for iterations of a race car. it's been used used as branding for other homologated race cars (or their engines) as well.
Using your logic, and machron1 already pointed this out, the Evo wouldnt be called the Evo at all anymore. It would be called something else since each generation changes. Remember, this is Mitsubishi's car, not yours. You just bought the rights to drive their design.
Damn. We need to stop all this X vs VIII/IX b!tchin.
This is the point, LANCER EVOLUTIONs are the ****. If you have one, weather it be a VI or a IX or a X, You have a dope car and thats that.
If anyone wants to make theads talking bad about a car, why dont we talk about the stupid hatch STi
